Cotto probably will rue the day he picked Trout to fight. He made at least $1 million -- the figure on his New York contract, which didn't take into account other revenue, such as profits from the pay-per-view in Puerto Rico -- but turned down an offer to face Manny Pacquiao in a rematch for millions more.
Cotto turned down a rematch with Pacquiao to take on Trout because Pacquiao wouldn't agree to fight at 154 pounds. That decision is a risky one for several reasons, not least of which is because even with pay-per-view revenues from Puerto Rico, Cotto will be lucky to take home a quarter of what he would have against Pacquiao.

Canelo figured as much, and since most of the issues had been resolved, he put up a deadline. Canelo didn't want to play second fiddle and didn't want that uncertainty for so long.Comment
