Even if contracts are signed. No one should run from extra drug testing.

That's my question. These things should be worked out when signing the contract. Otherwise it's a pointless request because the other fighter is not obligated at that point.

He's asking after the fight is signed. He shouldn't have signed the contract without it being in place. Then he should have went on a media tirade saying kova is refusing testing and the fans would have been on his side.

That's also true. The problem is they can't be forced if it's not in the contract

Kovalev said he put on a lot of muscle for his fight with Hopkins too, hmmm, things are getting fishy...

either way i think pascal is a winner. if he asked for this during negotiations, the fight might be off. instead, he secured the fight, attacked kovalev's dignity, and now kova lookin like a cheat. doesnt matter that kova isnt contractually binded to do a test but he said no to extra drug test. we gotta start saying this from now on: "he lost the pr battle"

I hope he accepts it. I'd be real disappointed if we found out that he was using something.

Apparently to do random testing for 7 to 8 weeks is really expensive. I can understand Kovalev's reluctance, especially when the contract is already signed.

This is according to Andre Ward, back in 2011

"It costs $50,000 to $100,000 for 7 to 8 weeks to do random testing for both fighters. That's what I recently found out because that's something that I want to implement in my fight with Carl Froch, whether he wants to do it or not," explained Ward.

So if Pascal is truly willing to pay for the entire testing then go for it, but if not then he's a complete dumbass who should have thought of it beforehand during negotiations.

Yes, exactly. Especially when someone else is paying for it.

If the fight is already signed there is no obligation from Kovalev to do anything, even of it's the "right thing to do". Pascal really should have learned that these sorts of things need to be ironed out before the contracts are signed.

I always thought when Hopkins refused it was a good mental game to Pascal, kept him thinking "maybe this guy is on something, maybe he isn't normal" making him think he's in the ring with some super human. Kovalev already has the perception of a killer though so there isn't much of a mental advantage here by refusing, in fact I'd be worried that Pascal withdrawals and cancels the fight.
