Jose Santa Cruz: The fight with Rigo won't happen because it's a fight I don't want..

This is what happens when you pay fighters ludicrous money for fighting bums. If Santa Cruz can make three quarters of a million for a showcase against some road sweeper, how much do you expect he and his team would want for fighting someone like Rigondeaux?
Gaymon has helped create this market which effectively prevents the best matchups from happening. It's an unsustainable model that simply doesn't work and does tremendous harm to boxing in the long run.Comment

He is an undercard filler who takes a chunk out of their budget fighting bums. They are losing money on him right now and will continue to do so until he beats somebody.Comment

Jose Santa Cruz, the father of SBW Champion Leo Santa Cruz also said, "It's a ridiculous fight. I have played it over in my head and to me it's a ridiculous fight because Rigondeaux doesn't come to fight, when he feels the opponents punches he runs, hugs, pushes or shoves his rivals. That's a ridiculous fight to me because the public deserves respect and they shouldn't watch a runner in the ring."
Rigondeaux really sits down on his punches and if he just 'ran like a chicken' he wouldn't be anywhere near as effective as he is.Comment

Mikey Garcia doesn't have Al Haymon as his advisor. If Santa Cruz had anyone else as his manager other than Haymon, he would have been lucky to have gotten $300,000 for his last fight. If Santa Cruz can get $700 to $800,000 fighting sparring partners in a division where fighters rarely take home more than $300,000 for a fight, why would he risk a loss against Rigondeaux for any amount of money?Comment
