Mayweather has attained at least 800K buys in 10 straight fights. At least 1M buys 6 times. At least 2M buys 2 times.

They're entertained by something. I was a casual boxing fan until 2007 (Mayweather-De La Hoya). Today, boxing is my favorite sport, above the NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL.

No offense, but that fight would have kept me away from boxing for sure. It was God awful and De La Hoya did any of the fighting which went on and that was not much.

The build-up for that fight got me interested, since ESPN followed it a bunch it caught my attention. I found a stream on fight night which opened up a way for me to watch fights since I didn't have HBO or SHO at the time. It wasn't the first boxing match I saw.

Boxing's biggest problem is access. Less than 1 in 10 Americans have HBO or SHO, and all the best fights happen on those channels. Less than 1 in 300 Americans buy PPVs, even when Mayweather and Pacquiao fight. More than 1 in 3 Americans watch the Super Bowl. 1 in 15 Americans watch Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football 17 weeks per year. It's about access. Football is free. When boxing appears on a channel that costs $20/month we are thankful that it's not on PPV for $75.

Most of the posters on this site don't understand because they live outside of the US and get all these fights for free. That's why boxing finds success in Europe. I hope Haymon's NBC plan comes to fruition.

Oh I totally agree. Access is the big problem. I usually follow these fights based on what I can find on Youtube. Times are tough and well, HBO and Showtime are not free or even cheap. So I definitely see what you mean.

I had no idea that European fans watch the fights for free. I wish it was that way here and it was at one time.

Yes. Best of luck to him and NBC. I would not miss one fight if that were the case!

If you don't like the thread don't enter it. I agree Mayweather is bad for the sport

Ambein has about the same amount of sales but Mayweather puts you to sleep sooner

Thanks. I didn't think I was wearing out a topic and this is not about Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao. I know that if I only watched a fight here and there, watching Mayweather would not make me a loyal fan of the sport.

I don't know about Ambien, but I hear Juan Manuel Marquez can do it in 6 rounds.

Because of the damn casual fans he fights the fights we boxing fans don't want him to be. Casual fans are easily deceived by the media.
