They were both prime in the 1st fight. Conn was not in shape at all in the second. Louis was weighing in just over 200 then.
Conn's first fight was at 135, you need to log in to see the weights:

He had many fights at welterweight and at middleweight.

      So you will overrate..

      Frazier and Joe Louis...

Who LITERALLY are not strong enough to carry the gym bags of Wladimir Klitschko and Chris Arreola...

Who'se fair records are about 50-100x weaker than Chubby or Wladdy's.

And then you UNDERATE Chris, WK, Piantea, Wach and so on in the next breath...

That's all "I" need to know as well.

      And I'll say it again...

"One of the two best heavyweight of all time". He has won countless of "fantasy fights" in these forums against the best of each era... and he was getting outboxed by a lightweight and had to come back from behind and knocked him out in the 14th round to not lose.

But in these days when Vitali destroyed Adamek, people (and even comentators) gave him no credit at all because "it was a Super Heavyweight beating up on a cruiserweight". It was a "mismatch"

Anybody here think that Terrance Crawford could outbox Wladimir Klitschko? Forget that. Roberto Duran is the greatest lightweight of all time, how many people here think he could outbox Wladmir Klitschko?

          Agreed.

          There is absolutely zero respect.

          It's a stinking insult.

Wladimir and Vitali completely destroy boxers who THEMSELVES would flog these guys straight out!

It is unimaginable what a Klitschko could do to Joe Louis if already Max bloody Baer could knock him out of the ring in round 1!

          Unimaginable!

            I stand corrected.

Yeah Louis had problems with movers no doubt and the division was slow when he came up. This current division isn't exactly stellar either.

I've never put him top 10 since after Ali's era but he dominated so thoroughly in his relative era so I have to think of his legacy as an ATG.

When it comes to heavyweights I tend not to dream match, as I said, because of the weight differences.

No HW boxer in the last 30 years would ever compete against a guy with this kind of background, especially today, and especially the champ.

Joe Louis stages a title defence against a totally bum.

              I'm not that old, lol.

Conn was pretty cagy at his best and a good lightheavyweight. The weights were much closer. You don't see lightheavies getting the shot anymore for that reason only.

Once you've cleaned the division you take the fights that are left.

                Wrong , I'm 32.

Please don't embarass yourself any further, I'll even try to help you out of this. No, I'm not black.

And guess what, before you pull out your next flamboyant remark: I'm not American either.

In fact I'm European, but I'm not so delusional as to revisit history just because Klitschko is not -that- good to be compared to Joe Louis.

It was Max's huge brother Buddy that half pushed him out of the ring. Max got destroyed. Buddy did too in the rematch. Mark of an ATG is someone who destroys in rematches ala Haggler, Marciano etc.

Klitschko's division is pretty slow too for those of us who remember the '70s. These old fighters are cruiserweights for pete's sake, lol. I have to wonder how Ali would have done with Lennox Lewis for that matter. The heavies will never be fairly compared for that reason.....the top contemporary heavyweights are just much bigger.

He was the first to do all the stuff that he did, the way he threw that right hand, the way he lead with the left hook, etc... nobody has ever done that before him, to me this is enough to make him an atg, he won 20+ title fights and he was the longest reigning heavyweight champ, of course almost all modern heavyweight champions could've beaten him like Ali, Foreman and Tyson, but these people learnt from people like Joe Louis and Ray Robinson, whereas Louis and Robinson came up with a lot of the stuff they did and they had to improvise, they've changed the sport of boxing from being a tough man's sport to being a smart man's sport, and for this they deserve a lot fo credit.
The comparisons between fighters from completely different eras is just absurd because it's not fair, newer guys would definitely beat older guys in a boxing match because they simply know more tricks due to the natural evolution of the sport, Ray Leonard could never show Mayweather something he never saw before whereas Floyd can show Leonard a lot of new tricks of the trade, and it's gonna be difficult for Leonard to adjust, same goes for Ali and Louis.
Wanna talk about overrated, you have to mention Rocky Marciano, this guy is definitley a product of white america trying to have a great white hope, don't get me wrong i respect him as a fighter, but he's not even in the top 100 in the list of great fighters by my count. Yeah he was 49-0 and retired undefeated and not everybody could do that, but who did he beat? how many championship fights did he have? out of 49 fights he only had 7 championship fight, which fighter was considered an atg with only 7 championship fights in the history of boxing? no damn body because it's simply an embarrasing number!
