Back in September, junior welterweights Lucas Matthysse (36-3, 34KOs) and Adrien Broner (29-1, 22KOs) were featured in separate Showtime televised fights from the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
After Broner won his main event over Emmanuel Taylor, he called for a fight with Matthysse. Viewers believed the two boxers were placed on the card to promote a possible future meeting.

Winning a belt usually signals a power shift in a division. Though he provides entertainment value and has world-level experience, Matts isn't a big name. He's the type of fighter that benefits the most from a belt. He's getting older and winning a belt is probably something on his bucket list.
We already know the drill though. If Haymon wants to match them up, he will. If Haymon decides to persuade a sanctioning body to make the match-up for a belt, then he will. Garcia can move up, make the WBC belt vacant and Broner/Matts fight for the belt.Last edited by kiaba360; 01-02-2015, 11:14 PM.Comment

Since the various parties are still mainly making in-house fights, then ownership of that belt is important for Haymon. I don't know if he has any intention of making Lucas vs Broner, but if he does, I think he'll wait until he has that belt in his pocket first.Comment

Matthysse is a Haymon boy. "It's too risky" is now an acceptable excuse for professional fighters.
*Rocky is mobbed by media*
"Mr. Balboa what do you think about facing Ivan Drago? Will you avenge your friend's death?"
"No. It's too risky. I'd like to thank Al Haymon." *Gets into limo with Rod Salka driving*
