We recall things differently. NOBODY in my circle thought Grant had any chance at all to beat Lewis. I hated Lewis back in the day and wanted anybody to beat him, but Grant was a complete no-hoper. It's true that he fought and beat better competition before his first title shot though.Comment

Really the only things that make me lean ever so slightly towards Wilder are the facts that Stiverne likes to lay against the ropes and counter. And if you look at almost all of Wilder's KO's, they come from full extension punches where he catches them at the very end of his shots. I think opponents feel like they're out of reach and then "bam", that long right lands.Comment

I'm leaning toward Stiverne because he's a better boxer, and he thinks more in the ring. The trifecta of reasons for Wilder to lose would be his lack of footwork and overall boxing skill, his chin, but IMO equally important is his bad combination of a huge ego and being an attention ho. Thinking one should be exalted before one proves reasons for it is foolish. KO Stiverne, KO Wlad... THEN act like you're king. Sorry though, just don't see him getting that far along.Comment

He might have ended up slumped out like Grant was against Lennox but he's not fighting Lennox.
So I have to agree with him...maybe against Wlad it would be a better comparison but even that will go out the window because he would presumably be a champion at that point.
Jennings is the one who might end up like Grant in his fight with Wladimir.Comment

Even accounting for the hyperbole, surely Grant had more than you say? He was billed as a bonfide threat to Lewis after all.
. . . . . . Either way you've sparked my interest with your comment. I'm gonna go back and watch some of his fights.Comment

That doesn't explain why so many HWs the same size or bigger in height and/or weight as Wlad have been failures.
If all Wlad had was size he'd be Jameel McCline or Ray Austin or Michael Grant or Julius Long or a whole lot of other guys who went nowhere.
Are all guys 7 feet tall as good as Wilt Chamberlain was?Last edited by Ulver; 01-02-2015, 01:40 PM.Comment

Are you talking about the undefeated Grant or the shot Grant from these days?Comment
