Wilder and Grant comparisons are lame IMO, but in the same breath I can see where those who speak it are coming from. I don't agree, but I do see why people would say it. Still lame though. One mans destiny does not map out the next mans whom is of the same height or in the same position of the same profession.

Agreed. But that's just class difference.

Wilder punches harder than Grant and also there's no one anywhere close to Prime Lewis right now in the HW Division. Wladimir for all his great showing against Pulev, is no longer prime and has clearly regressed as a fighter compared to the Wlad who schooled Sultan and Ruslan. Wladimir only looks like he's still in his prime because his opponents are not skilled enough to push him.

Some people thought Lewis was still in his prime against shot Tyson because Lewis destroyed shot Tyson. But anyone that knows boxing knew that Lewis was clearly past it against Tyson. Lewis wasn't throwing as many combinations as the Lewis of 97-00. He took longer to unload his shots, his jab wasn't as crisp or sharp. In fact, Lewis won against Tyson mainly by fighting the same way Wlad has fought against Povetkin. (not nearly as boring but still mainly used his size and leaning tactics to tire Tyson out).

Prime Lewis was the Lewis who destroyed Golota, destroyed Holyfield in that first fight, schooled Tua and destroyed Grant. Those were prime versions of Lewis and none of these versions exist in the HW Division right now .Wilder would go very far because by the time Wilder fights Wlad, Wlad would be semi shot.

I can actually see a mega match between Wilder and Joshua in 2017 or 2018.

Deontay Wilder is correct to dismiss the Michael Grant comparison...

Michael Grant was much better than Deontay Wilder

Really though, they are kind of similar but only in the sense of being "hype jobs" and both happen to be tall.

It's dumb that people dismiss Grant as some bum hype job that got exposed. He was a pretty solid fighter. It's not like it's an insult to be a Michael Grant.

Agree. Apart from Lewis, the fight with McCline was a bit of a weak loss anyway, the guy done his knee and it looked pretty painful.

Apart from that, Takam is a good boxer and big hitter, Adamek is an excellent boxer and very tough opponent and the fight Michael Grant vs Tomasz Adamek was a first rate fight!

Other than that it's only Dominic Guinn who is a decent opponent.

48-5.. Pretty much just as good a run as Mike Tyson!

I remember Grant getting a lot more hype than Wilder is getting now. HBO was trying to hype him as the next big thing and pretty much fed him to the wolf when they put him in with Lewis.

Grant made good money challenging for the belt. I think he grossed 4 million. There was more money in the fight game then. Granted Grant was lucky that nut case Golota let him clear his head in their fight but he had heart and a will to win. He just didn't know how to protect his weak chin and couldn't con a fighter that he wasn't stunned. Hopefully Grant kept his money but I doubt it as why would he be fighting b side fights that are going nowhere 14 years later.
