He fought three times a month sometimes and beat Lamotta in their rematch three weeks after losing at first. And floyd has clearly been touched before. Corrales, de la Hoya, maidana and cotto to name a few. You must just be trolling. It's boxing, you never go a whole fight without getting touched at some point.

Overall, I at least agree that some people automatically overrate past atgs but guys like pep, Robinson and Moore could fight in any era because their fundamentals were so good.
Pep was good but if Floyd fought in that era, there would be zero competition. SRR used to fight nothing but bums. How many credible foes has he faced 30 something decent fighters? When your fighting 5 times a month and everyone you face has 50 losses, how good are they by the time they face SRR? You been beat to a pulp 50 times and you fight 5 times a month, your a shot fighter by the time you face SRR.

You say he has skills? Yea for THAT era. But in THIS era, where a fighter as good as Floyd ACTUALLY EXIST, It would be NO mention of them fighting eachother being a big competitive match.

SRR, and Pep would be shock that a fighter as good as Pernell exist and Pernell is no Floyd. But I say the same thing for SRL. SRL is WAAAY better than SRR, but SRL aint no Floyd. This dude basically invented cherrypicking, cw's, and the art of retiring to avoid the ops. IfFloyd and Pac fought in SRL's era, they would be like "Holy shiat"

The way people lie about the past ATGs REALLY makes me not respect those fighters as much. I KNOW boxing and I KNOW its a BLATANT skillset difference between them and the fighters of our era.

But I ALSO take PRIDE in what I have witnessed in the fighters of MY ERA. Their is NO FIGHTER IN HISTORY that are as good as the fighters that WE HAVE WITNESSED.

Be PRIDEFUL Of what you saw Pac do to those bums at ww. Be PRIDEFUL of Floyd though, you all talk so bad about this man this dude is the GREATEST FIGHTER I HAVE EVER SEEN!!

Its just beyond OTHERWORLDLY how good he was at his peek. That is all.

And by the way, Floyd has been touched, so has SRL AND SRR right? Yet Floyd had a plus minus of 30 which was TOP THREE IN BOXING HISTORY.

SRR's and SRL's plus minus is NOTHING to run and tell about.

OK, who did Leonard fight at a catchweight? And who did he cherry-pick?

Listen man, NOBODY has ever talked about this plus minus *****. You can't honestly say that floyd is the best ever? He hardly ever fights. Doesn't defend his 154lb belt. If you're going to bring up srl retiring (because of a detached retina) then you can't ignore that floyd did it. All the greats agree that Floyd is not that good. Even people like roy who previously praised him are calling him out now. If you don't believe that Robinson is that good then fair dos I won't argue further. But floyd is not THAT good. He has picked his opposition carefully. Early on he took risks but now he plays it way too safe to be considered the best. Leonard at least fought the top guys at the time. Mayweather picked Guerrero, who nobofy considered a top welter. Then he picked canelo, a slow mover who was made even slower due to the catchweight. He then refused to defend these belts against other 154lbers. He picked maidana, who had only beaten Broner, and beat him and then asked for a rematch we all knew he would win. NOW instead of making the fight that could be made with pac, Al haymon is now offering a cotto rematch. And floyd lost to castillo, we all know this. Floyd definitely has skills and will be considered one of the best of this era but not the best.

You can't honestly tell me that someone who has been as inactive as floyd is the best. He has avoided matchups against guys like margarito, williams, pacquiao and possibly Lara. You can make a case for leonard being better than Robinson but leonard at least took way more ridks than floyd. He fought the top guys at the time and didn't handpick to the level floyd does.

The catchweight was for a light heavyweight title. It's allowed him to defend two different belts.

              Jeez…

I am honest with myself. Just because I am not stuck in the “new is automatically better” line of thought doesn’t mean I am wrong.

You are not going to convert somebody else to your position in this type of debate, so why not start putting forward some arguments and explain WHY this era in particular is superior to the previous ones?

It would undoubtedly be a refreshing sight to see you test something new instead of taking the same old route as usual.

Exactly. I am kind of in both fields. Some old greats could compete in this era while some would struggle. But this "athletes today are bigger, faster and stronger" doesn't seem to apply to boxing because a lot of boxers still get gassed early on.

It depends on how you define "old greats". Pre-1930? '50s? '80s?

He fought Lalonde at the weight of 168.

This allowed SRL to grab the Lalonde's 175 WBC belt as well as the 168 WBC belt.

Although that doesn't make Leonard a chump. He fought the #1 rated guy at 154 before fighting Hearns in the legendary matchup at 147.
