  • Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Pacquiao Has More Respect Than Mayweather

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya admits that a few years ago he would have quickly picked Manny Pacquiao to defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr.

That is no longer the case. In the opinion of De La Hoya, Pacquiao's physical abilities gave declined quicker than Mayweather's - which De La Hoya attributes to the many tough fights which Pacquiao took part in.

De La Hoya faced both fighters in the ring, dropping a twelve round split decision to Mayweather in 2007 and then getting stopped by Pacquiao in eight rounds in 2008.

Oh, no doubt, that's not even debatable. When it's all said and done Floyd will be looked at as a fraudulent career, he won't be even listed in the top 200 of all time. Pacquiao will be remembered as the greatest fighter of our generation after Golovkin and without a doubt top 10 of all time.

Pacquiao has more respect, not for the wars he's been in, but because he carries himself like a world champion, and not the champion of "WorldStar." Pacquiao has more Joe Louis and Ali, than Mayweather. However, if Manny is not careful (of Bob Arum), he may just end his career just like Joe Louis and Ali. That's not a good look!

I would have loved to see Floyd fight Paul the punisher Williams.

Also I think Floyd is good enough to venture into middleweight and test himself against bigger 160 lb fighters.

I'm not saying I respect Floyd any less than I respect Manny but as talented as he is I wish he would challenge himself more.

The PED accusations, whether we believe he did or did not, will affect Pacquiao's legacy.
