He's better than rios, alvarado, and maybe give alexander a very tough test
You know, now that you mention those names I really wouldn't mind seeing Maidana/Chaves scrap. It would be a great Boxing After Dark come back fight for Marcos.
I was more impressed by him in the Thurman fight. He fought a lot more calculated in that fight. I thought against Rios he just became a pocket ****er, but I thought that was more do to Rios. Then he came out in the Bradley fight the same pocket ****er and I was not impressed.
He Seems like he just wants to sit in the pocket and trade. He should fight Peterson or Provodnikov.
I like him, solid top 15-20 in the division. I will like to see him using his legs a little more. Maybe he could benefit from another trainer at this time but the guy has a lot of potential.
He was beating Thurman until the late knockdown. Had that not happened, he had a very good chance of outpointing Thurman if no..."politics"...were involved. When they exchanged inside, Chaves seemed to dominate, and Thurman was the one that backed up.
I dunno, he got caught up in Rios' machismo games and it became a foul fest . Probably would have won it had he just boxed.
Though I felt that he clearly lost to Bradley and got beat at his own phonebooth game, Chaves will make a good "test" opponent for any top 10 welter. Him vs Porter could be a slugfest.
