you're making my point for me. If it was just a minor mistake, then take the rematch with Gonzalez. When presented with this option, Mares backed away. A fighter only has so many prime years, and at 29 Mares can't afford to have a slow comeback. Conclusion: the KO loss to Gonzalez was more then just hiccup

What are you talking about? I said "minor mistake" because that's exactly what it was. Jhonny feinted downstairs and switched it up mid punch, Abner was blocking the body shot that never arrived, thus exposed his chin and got cracked. After getting up he tried to slug it out with a rangier fighter with much more power in his fists, wrong strategy.

Supposedly the rematch was set for the beginning of the year but an injury put it off. After that Mares switched teams and wanted to test waters with his new camp but didn't appreciate his new team so he went back to Medina. He needed these two comeback fights and he looked great in his last outting. I'm sure he has a few more years left in his prime.
