I agree. And I refuse to put all the blame on Arum, because Manny decided to renew his contract with him.

People should consider Arum's previous antics when looking at his objection to May 2nd.

A couple of years ago, when the fight was presented, Pacquiao had a cut that needed to be healed and Bob needed to have a stadium built; June was the option presented, when he knew Mayweather would be incarcerated. As others have noted, Pacquiao has fought Hatton and Marquez on the Cinco de Mayo week.

It's about consistencies and inconsistencies. Bob Arum's desire to cherish Cinco De Mayo as a holiday for Mexicans is inconsistent with his previous actions (Having non Mexicans headline an event around that time), and he didn't raise that issue in the past. What is, however, consistent is his ability to find some objection for the fight taking place.

It should be as clear as day, to any reasonable person, that he is simply pulling a new excuse from his limitless pocket.

It works both ways. If Canelo vs Cotto becomes official, Floyd has no say either. Floyd can stay on that date but he is too expensive and will lose a lot of the Latino boxing fans. Showtime will not go for it. That is unless Floyd fights Manny .... but who will be promoting Cotto? Arum. Arum is also Manny's promoter. Arum will not want both fights on the same night.

So if you agree to the above logic, Cotto, Canelo and Manny can force the issue on Floyd and therefore have indirectly a pull or say in when Floyd fights.

Have the mega fight on the 4th of July weekend then. This really shouldn't be a problem. Let Canelo/Cotto have the may 2nd date.

Floyd beat Canelo and Cotto why should he concede a date to them?

So Arum isn't willing to have the fight on May 2nd?

                Why?

Having it on that date will maximise the revenue.
no it won't. if canelo isn't backing out of that date then you'll have another big ppv competing with manny vs floyd.

if you want to maximize the revenue then you have the fight on a separate date with no other big ppv scheduled that will compete. it's that simple.

also roach trains both pac and cotto.

Haven't you heard? Non-Mexicans fighting on Mexican holidays maximizes revenue. That's why Showtime only lost $16 million on Floyd-Maidana on 2 separate Mexican holidays this year.

Cinco de Mayweather or no fight!
