Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Explains: Thurman is Better Than Golovkin

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya thinks very highly of welterweight puncher Keith "One Time" Thurman (23-0, 21KOs). The feared slugger returns later tonight in a Showtime televised fight against undefeated Italian Olympian Leonard Bundu.

How good is Thurman? De La Hoya, a former five division world champion, believes Thurman is an overall better fighter than WBA/IBO/WBC interim-middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs).

But that doesn't mean Thurman can beat Golovkin. Beside, I think Thurman still need to improve his craft, he gets punched way too much.

      Oscar

Oscar as we know in boxing a guy could be a slightly better technical fighter move a little better like Ali but Frazier beat him. Ggg can lose a few rounds to Thurman but be breaking him down. Ggg cuts the ring off as good as anyone Thurman is no young Floyd with movement he will chop him down don't be hating.

Yes, Oscar, but according to you, Amir Khan is better than any of them, so keep on smoking what you're smoking and providing all of us with a daily laugh.

I feel like Thurman has shown more sides to his game.

Golovkin hasn't really needed to yet with the kind of opposition he's been facing.

ODLH must be mad. if ggg had been a chump, he wouldn't have achieved his amateur achievements/greatness. ggg has a lot of experience, he's a very effective and balanced fighter. ggg is much better than canelo. by the way that's why canelo(cotto) will be ducking. ggg would beat thurman. but i like thurman, he's a good fighter and he has a bright future.

There opposition is equally weak but Kahn wants so part of Thurman and neither does Maidana.

Sorry but your comparsion is sucks. Ali beat Frazier after that and he also beat Foreman who was the way bigger puncher (than Frazier) and had the more similar style to GGG than Frazier (If you want to stick to the Ali comparsion). With that being said, Thurman is one of my favs but he needs to prove himslef before Oscar say tings about him like this. But I can't blame him tbh. He hypes his fighter. That's all. Thurman really has the goods, Bundu will be his most serious test up to date.
