GGG's gotta' secure some fights with real opposition before I won't reject such ideas out of hand.

And even then, I'd probably reject the idea completely out of hand.

I mean he has to clean out 168 (including Andre Ward) and 175 and even then...

Not to diminish the potential greatness of tripGs, but RJJ...it's a tough row to hoe.
why does he have to clean out 168 and 175?

      im not comparing greatness

I don't think its unreasonable to think Golovkin COULD knock him out. I don't thinK Roy at that time has ever faced a puncher anywhere as powerful as Golovkin, who has dynamite in both hands apparently.

The speed difference will be shocking, Roy could take it all the way. He's very athletic, but he's still boxing. Golovkin could knock Roy Jones Jr. out, but he's going to eat a ton of leather. Roy could dance around and have you 180 while he's still throwing a combination.

Golovkin would have to KO Roy late. I see GGG (or anyone else) adjusting to Roy's style and speed taking quite some rounds and by the time they're covering that extra inch they might have accumulated too much damage, but GGG is willing to punch with a guy so who knows.
one of the things often criticized through-out roys career was a lack of a good puncher, tarver was the hardest puncher of his career

one weakness that was evident from early in roys career is him lying on the ropes, roy jones usually retreated straight back, into the ropes(although he was very good moving along them and excellent at circling his opponents when on the offensive, as good if not better than pacquiao) if you got close to him there would be a fire fight, and yes, roy is fast, and he has huge power, but lol @ anyone thinking roy just sparks golovkin(not directed to you, someone else mentioned it), golovkin is a highly decorated amatuer and he's just as good as hopkins or toney, although i doubt he'll be as great having started his pro career as late as he did and think a prime conditioned toney beats him in a close decision

what he does have over those guys is alot more experience against a variety of styles(350 amatuer fights, 345-5), dont think golovkin couldn't get close to roy because lesser fighters have

if sosa(bum) could keep roy jones on he ropes the entire fight(admittedly only 2 rds) and castro put him there whenever he went on the attack, i think golovkin could keep him close when he really wants it
and roy jones defense was his footwork(even jones has admitted it), his ability to quickly leap back or maintain a distance and the best way to take away someones footspeed is cutting off the ring, and golovkin is one of the best i have ever seen at cutting off the ring, his ability to cut off the ring is as ridiculous as jones' footspeed

obviously there's a chance roy jones wins, but the reason for this topic is because i usually favor jones over just about everyone, but as someone who has watched his entire career, i'd favor golovkin in a fight vs roy@ 160-168, by ko, about 60-40 @ 160, 55-45 @168 in favor of golovkin

roy in his career never faced a great presssure fighter, nor a great puncher, esspecially not packed into a great techincal boxer that is gennady golovkin
and he hasn't knocked out any of the best guys he's fought, dont see why there would be a high chance of ko'ing golovkin

anyway, i appreciate everyone that just gave their breakdown, instead of being an idiot trolling and using my avatar as an excuse

If Jones made a mistake like that against Golovkin, I don't think it would end well at all.

Prime RJJ would've clowned GGG badly.

On NSB, that makes him the next Matthysse or Algieri "peeleft: A legend who is simply unbeatable.

Look at the rest of the fight, it was a massacre, and it was not a knock down, it was a slip

Roy had alot of advantages over Glovokin

                      Roy Jones - Advantages
                      Reach - 74***8243; Vs GGG's 70
                      Height - 5***8242; 11***8243; Vs GGG 5***8242; 10***8243;
Much better ring competition, at Age 32, Roy had already beat
                      James Toney and Bernard Hopkins.
                      Faster footwork
                      Faster Handspeed
                      Better counter puncher
                      Better timing
                      Better defense
Good Power - not better than Glovokin's though
                      Better punch out put

                      Advantages
                      Glovokin
                      Slightly Harder Puncher

This would have been a brutal fight for GGG in my opinion, and not in his favor, Roy Jones Jr prime was just too much for any MW of today and past, the only MW that I think would have beaten Roy Jones would have been possibly Hagler or Ray Robinson.
