i wore glasses, and i fought for years. But your dad is a punk for wanting you to box. I have a 3yr old son who loves boxing, but I would never let him go beyond training. Boxing is a great sport to work out and keep fit, but no way I would want my son to take punches to the head for a living.

Your right there is no age restriction by law. But a good doctor would not do that **** untill you are 19 or 20 because of the fact that your eyes continue to change shape a great deal untill about that time. So if you get lazer surgery at 18, you might need it again two years later.

I sparred with contacts when I trained at a gym, I suppose if your eye swelled up or whatever you can just pop them out if you have dailies.

Ya know, I used to go to gym even though I wore glasses. My trainer saw I wore them though never asked how bad my vision really was. My vision was horrid and everytime I took off the glasses to begin training, it was like going underwater without goggles. Though, I absolutely love boxing and I was trying to give it my all even though I was nearly blind without glasses. BTW, when I tell you nearly blind, that's no joke. So after doing lots of training stuff, I finally get to spar. Things went down hill from there. I just couldn't see the punches coming no matter how hard I tried to react. I mean, I'd either be waiting for the punch to come and try to dodge it or I'd get hit by punches I had no idea where they were coming from. Was like fast blurs. So after afew sparring sessions, I gave up sparring since it felt hopeless to me. I wasn't giving back as good as I was taking so I basically quit heartbroken. Now I'd like to go back just for the workout because it was great, though the gym is too far for that and it was hard enough getting there when I was going on a serious routine. Now I'd prefer to workout closer in another gym. Though nothing compares to the atomsphere of being in a boxing gym if your a boxing fanatic. It's the one thing I truely miss. Though to answer your question, it depends how blind you are without your glasses. I went because I can see closeup(reading) perfect though distance bad. My distance goes bad after about 2-3 feet. I figure in sparring we'd be close enough that I could see everything, though I wasn't prepared for the speed. The way I see it now is, if you can't see, why give up a huge advantage to your opponent in a sport that is very dangerous even with 20/20 vision. I guess if you don't mind a beating and enjoy sparring, go for that though don't go pro, nor would you get a license when they do an eye examination on you.

boxing is not a sport you just get into.you have to love it and you think that because you wear glasses you cant join.sounds like an excuse something a person that loves the sport would not make.
