There's an article in mail online that he only took home $125k?! That's a pittance for a fight of that magnitude. Does anyone know how much was Bhop's share?
Sergey Kovalev to take home just a quarter of his purse from Bernard Hopkins victory

Sergey Kovalev will be left with only a quarter of his purse from his emphatic victory over legend Bernard Hopkins last month, after tax and payments to his manager and promoter.
But after tax and payments to his trainer and manager, Kovalev will be left with $125,000 of his $500,000 purse.
Taxes are counted at the end of the year and I have to pay all of them,' he told Russian news agency ITAR-TASS. 'They told me that from my earnings I have to pay 50 per cent taxes, plus deduct payments for my manager and trainer.
'What's left is about 25 per cent of my purse. There*'s not a lot of money to wrestle thinking how to spend it. I have my son, Alexander, all the diapers, clothes, they cost a lot.' - Kovalev
at least he not dumb, it the end of the year and he probably wont have another bout in time by april 15th so he should put 50 percent away for his taxes right now and that will only leave him with 250,000 and his promoter cut probably 30%/75,000 and what 15%/37,500 for his trainer and lets just say another 20,000 for miscalenaous, meals, sparring partner etc etc
250,000
75,000
37,500
- 20,000
------------
117,500
that is all that is left, but small price to pay for something that shot him up beyond anything, next fight he gonna make some decent bank thats for sure.Last edited by Daylyt; 12-04-2014, 08:11 AM. -
I don't get it. 50%?? Why is he paying 50% of his purse towards taxes? Do other fighters pay 50%? I don't tnink they do. That's a crazy number. It's straight up robbery.
What does this tax money get used for anyway? This man has a newborn son and these old and lazy politicians sitting on their butts and having sexual relations with illegal **********s are using 50% of a mans hard earned payday for what exactly????Comment

we wouldn't want a reptilian illuminati like Kovalev in the 1% controlling the world oil supplyComment

Do most people think that the purse a fighter receives is the same as what they bank? The manager, trainer, and sparring partners cost money too and that's after tax.
Remember too that a 500k purse is beyond the wildest dreams of most guys in boxing. This is the reality of the sport. Very few people make significant money in it. There are guys at the world class level barely scraping a living.
And the move towards premium networks over the past 20 years has made the situation worse, not better. There are even fewer opportunities to earn now because the wider public sees less of the sport.Comment

Do other fighters pay 50%, tbough? There's no way that's accurte... Half of their purses? Is this a one time thing or does every fighter pay 50% in the US?Comment
