Did he owe back taxes? That doesn't really make any sense.

He also had money from two other HBO fights so he shouldn't be off that bad. Also, fat dan said Kovalev is getting the lion's share for the Pascal fight.

That's of course not counting property tax, sales tax, etc.

Just apply for section 8 housing and get free healthcare guys, you'll live basically the same life as someone with a PhD if you find a good area.
      Thanks for the explanation.

I'm surprised so many people here are shocked by the numbers although the highest amount I've read previously is that fighters get taxed 40%

Anyone surprised? Boxing is not a real job or really a sport its a business scam with sporting element to it. Everyone trying to get as much money as possible for the least risk.

This is Kovalev's first money fight, guys. He took 125 after taxes, in addition to his other bouts this year, he made some damn good money for a guy that was an absolute nobody two years ago.

Saying that; I thought his purse for this fight was one million, not 500k?

Damn bhop made 1 mill meaning hbo paid 1.5 million for a fight like this. Kind of disgusting how they paid like 3 mill for the andre ward fight. And also I read Kovalev gets a % of the revenue

Kovalev fought 3 times in 2014, taking home the $500k for the Hopkins fight, in addition to his purses for the other two fights.

To settle his tax bill for the entire year, it will apparently cost him $250k. The fact that he's settling the bill off of one fight is beyond the point.

trying to turn this into some "******** are evil" nonsense is silly

Even though its chopped down to 125,000, it all depends on how he chooses to spend his money. He does have a child and all that but he still has comfortable money. He just needs to avoid balling out for now but he is fine, especially since his next scrap will bring in more than 125,000.

This **** reminds me of Don King ripping people off but im positive Kovalev will earn much more on his future fights.
