So big earning boxers DONT pay 50% taxes? I knew something wasnt right about this. I smell something fishy here

Some kind of investigation needs to be launched asap. Kovalev just had a baby, this isn't right

That's exactly what he says in the article and how I understood it. Cumulative taxes for the year.

It's what he owes in taxes on all his three fights in 2014.

Besides I don't know how boxing business works, but unless his promoter is paying for his sparring partners etc, I'm pretty sure those things can be written off as business expenses by Kovalev himself.
Your bracket just determines your basic national income tax, you pay an additional "flat rate" percentage for amounts earned above the maximum bracket (which is I believe $250,000) plus state income tax (here in California the maximum state bracket is over 10%), etc so most anyone in the maximum bracket is "supposed to" pay over 50% of their income.

And you wonder why all those "Evil doctors and CEOs" send their money to overseas havens.

That's of course not counting property tax, sales tax, etc.

Just apply for section 8 housing and get free healthcare guys, you'll live basically the same life as someone with a PhD if you find a good area.

it sucks but Kovalev will be getting 7 figures for his next few fights most likely.
I've also read that his manager pretty much bankrolled his expenses for living and training for his first 20 fights or so, so I'm sure he had to get paid back as well.

This doesn't seem fair. Kovalev should have made at least $1 million from HBO for a unification fight for 3 belts against an ATG fighter.

HBO paid Andre Ward $1.7 mill to face a fringe contender in his last fight.

Andre Berto used to make well over a million to face journeymen like Freddy Hernandez.

And that right there is why all these fighters worship the ground that Al Haymon walks on, even though us fans are annoyed with the garbage fights he gives us.

Look at it this way, he took a gamble and it paid off. He beat Hopkins for decent money, he now has 3/4 belts, and he's in demand. His next fight is against Pascal and he's going to make way more money off that fight, and if he wins there's a Stevenson fight on the horizon where he could potentially make even more. So there's not too much to worry about especially if he fights on HBO 3x per year.
