  • Comments Thread For: Martin Murray: More Hype Golovkin Gets, Better For Me

Martin Murray (29-1-1, 12KOs) is loving his underdog role as he enters a ten week training camp to prepare for his the most dangerous fight of his career, when he faces WBA/IBO/WBC interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs) on February 21st in Monte Carlo.

Murray has won four in a row since a controversial twelve round decision loss to Sergio Martinez in April 2013.

Most experts are tabbing Golovkin to dispatch of Murray in a few rounds, but those predictions are only fueling his motivation as he enters the contest.

Haven't all of Golovkin's opponents been saying something similar lately?

      Hype?

It's hype until he gets pasted, but GGG still won't get the credit.

I still think Golovkin is slightly overrated. Leaky defense, he does lunge and drop his hands.
It still amazes me that Rosado has probably given him his toughest test, not taking anything away from Gabe, but you would think some of the other guys Golovkin has faced would have done better.

Murray is a large 160 lber I doubt he gets put away in a couple of rounds. He wont win, but Im hoping he comes prepared, and not scared. Id like to see GGG in a live fight this time around.

Murray will be the best 3G's faced so far. I can't see Murray winning, but he should really be 31-0 and he'll give 3G a decent test.

Murray is solid, this will last around 6-7 rounds is my guess

Rosado and Proksa both showed real courage against GGG, not quitting against a vastly superior opponent. They kept throwing punches. Most guys cave.

I respect ANYBODY who gets in the ring against Golovkin. I don't respect fighters who call themselves MW champs and aren't dying to prove they're better than this guy everybody's talking about.

In short, GGG boxes better than anyone who's big enough or strong enough to withstand some of the punishment, and he's more powerful than anyone who's likely to box him well. Not that anyone has yet.

I want to see this Golovkin who hasn't left 2nd gear yet.

Well according to Abel that is anyway. I like GGG he is definitely a machine and it's not his fault that he hasn't had to prove his skills because his opponents just don't trouble him enough.

                  "Don't believe the hype."
                  "Not scared of his power."
"Won't go out like so and so."

Just go ahead and write it ahead of time. We know its coming, just like Murray getting beaten down.

Rosado is a live dog! put it like this Rosado has zero amateur experience, GGG is a silver medalist, Rosado was new to middleweight. GGG is very good, he has yet to be tested, I used to put Kovalev and GGG in the same boat, but Kovalev took less $ to fight Hopkins and now that decision is going to pay dividends, not sure why GGG's people have yet to secure a very good opponent even tho they might have to spend a little??? this is the formula to success - all of the greatsgo through it: Hopkins vs roy jones jr / Mayweather vs De La Hoya - Trinidad vs De la hoya - kovalev vs Hopkins - V Klitschko vs Lennox Lewis - Evander Holyfield vs Buster Douglas - the fights I mentioned where breakout fights against opponents that where paid more, but from these fights the fighters where in a different earning bracket - boxing economics 101
