This is why I think the fight will happen, the time is now, both networks are losing most likely with Manny and Floyd, time to make it happen so they can recoup their losses.Comment

Do people seriously think Manny is more popular in the US than Asia? He might get a 5 million gate here, it'll easily be triple that in China. They have more money to throw around, have 700 million more people than the US and guess what... Manny is Asian, the most recognizable asian sports figure in the world and you think he'll get paid LESS in China or maybe slightly more? Please lol. He just got put on the side of a ****ing plane for Air Asia he's like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning over in Asia... Ali status man.Pacquiao vs. Bradley 2 did $7.8 million in Vegas.
It wasn't a very strong gate so just imagine what type of numbers a fight against Algieri would have done in Vegas. Lets say Macau garanteed $8 million for his fight against Algieri, that wouldn't be bad. If the PPV was in Vegas I doubt they do a lot bigger numbers, how much could they possibly do? Another 100k but do a $5-6 million dollar gate? At least with them fighting in Macau they get to keep building the Chinese market with Zou Shiming and secure some good Chinese television money.
Everything is speculation anyways but it's nothing new.
In 1997 Showtime lost about $7 million with paying Holyfield $20m and Moore $7m with the PPV only selling 550,000 buys.

not yet cuz they are most likely hoping that the fight happens. Remember after the fight floyd said this, "SHOWTIME MUST GET THE FIGHT"... As soon as I heard that I knew that coincided with my theory that the numbers just dont add up. Now this news comes out that they actually LOST money proves that point.Comment

Pacquiao can actually get away with fighting a chump like Algeri and pulling in low US ppv due to the high site fee from the Venetian Macau which pays about 3x what the Vegas MGM would've paid and then the Chinese tv deal is huge in itself. It's on free tv in China, but they also estimate 200-300 million people will watch and that's the kind of big time sponsorship money that'll make a ppv format look like a loser. And there's also this little country known as the Philippians which invests a good chunk of money into Manny's fights...
And somebody mentioned that HBO is on the hook for Manny's $20mill guarantee - No. HBO holds exclusive rights to air his fights in the US, but they still buy the fights from TR, which is who holds Manny's guarantee. If HBO doesn't want to pay $20mill for an Algeri fight they don't have to, it's up to TR to decide if they can come up with enough revenue to make the show a go, which given the other revenue sources they do just fine.
Conversely, the Mayweather business model is very dependent on US ppv sales to meet the heavy expenses. They have to throw way more money into a Mayweather promotion because they depend on that more narrow ppv market. This became one of the many sticking points in the previous negotiations with Floyd & Manny. Floyd wants to tap into those foreign revenue sources because they almost rival his US ppv revenue, but at a lower expense.Comment

They didn't do a big tour for the Maidana fights, plus the sponsors are the ones that cover a lot of the costs with activating in store marketing campains and the comercials are paid for by the cable companies that's part of the deal of getting that 50% cut.
They don't keep half, if I remember correctly they have some sort of deal where they don't pay a site fee but have certain amount of tickets they can buy. Basically they let the promoters keep all the gate money but they make their money by ******* up hotel prices and bringing in whales. I'll try to look for the article.
Most the numbers out there are between 900k and 950k for each fight. The $3 million isn't going to make them lose $16 million give or take when you add it up.
Until there is any evidence of PPV buys in China it's all speculation. Also, the amount of buys means nothing if you lose money. As for Manny's numbers... that's 300k buys in the US only. Not China and Manny is Asian, just like Floyd is American he'll be a much, MUCH bigger draw in Asia. Not only do that have a bigger economy than the US they have 3-4 times the population. Just a terrible argument, Manny made more than enough money fighting in China isn't it obvious they do it over there because they can't make money here without Floyd? Seriously, Manny's only fought over there twice since becoming a star, his stock is still sky high.
If the Chinese market was so great there is no reason he would ever fight in the states again. Yet he fought here for Bradley and is supposed to have his next fight here too.Comment
