in before... the Mayweather-Canelo fight brought in 2.2 million buys! it made up for everything!

Wrong ...41.5 million guarantee, Canelo got 5million.

Large guarantees for the one. They probably did make a profit for this one...but the rest of the fights on his contract have lost Showtime money.

this is not really surprising. he's no tyson, let's not fool ourselves. no fighter with a defensive style ever got big in the sport's history.

his retiring, ducking, vacationing made him big. fans were rooting for dela hoya, but got a disappointing split decision loss. adding insult to injury, TBE rejected the rematch. since then they followed him around to see him lose.

but he retired and avoided prime competition. people wanting to see him lose, or even get murked plus the curiosity he unintentionally created (retiring, vacationing, ducking) is what have been driving these ppv numbers for him.

If we take what steven a says regarding the lost money as fact-then we should take everything he says as fact. he discusses alot of stuff-including how often he has heard floyd and his team say he wants the fight.

calls many a liar regarding fighting for free-we all know that anyway. talks about bob blocking the fight for many-we knew that too.

According to his sources CBS lost $16 mil on both Maidana fights. doesn't mean they lost money on the whole deal given how much they made with Canelo. But I trust steven a.

But did we not just have a THREAD about how no one hear on BoxingScene cares about PPV buys when we were talking Pac Vs Algeri numbers??
That thread was for the internet-accountants... this one is for the real-accountants.

Who said that? I could care less about the number of buys it's how much they made. Manny only got 300k buys, I can promise you HBO didn't lose 16 million or even 16 cents lol.

Highly unlikely. U do know Manny has a guaranteed deal worth over 20 nil with hbo? So tell me how they didn't lose money.

talking about PPV buys? Nah we talking 'bout business.

Well it's the fault of CBS/Showtime to offer Floyd huge guarantees. That cuts into profitability. If he made what PAC generally makes 20-25 million. They'd probaby be fine.

But the point is, CBS wants to make money. As a corporate entitity, they'd like to make $$$.

They want the Floyd-PAC fight. And they probably do not want to go head to head against Canelo-Cotto. Floyd will be forced to move off the May date because FLOYD HAS A BOSS . lol...

floyd will suck it up and change dates, or go on vacation.

Sure... But it's about NOW (last 2 fights and the next 2)...
... We don't know how reliable Stephen A. Smith's sources are, but has anybody (qualified, I mean) stated that he was wrong or misinformed? Stephen A. Smith may speculate, but nobody said the opposite... a.s.o.

I believe what Steven says about Floyd saying he wants to fight Manny etc... why wouldn't I? The problem is I don't believe Floyd it's really just that simple. I just want to toot my horn as well and say I called this since the first fight, almost got the exact amount they lost correct.
