TC: Finally a "Boxer" to get Behind

I like to think of guys like SRL, DLH, Mosley, Hearns, Hagler and so on as technicians and think the use of the term "boxer" is ****** and offensive. Is a great, come forward, aggressive fighter any less of a boxer? Of course not, there are different styles. A technician is someone with sound boxing fundamentals and the ability to switch between attack and defense. The US produced a tonne of this guys from the 80s to the mid-90s.

However, over the last decade, America seemed to be producing, stationary defensive fighters who rely on quick one twos and then run. Dirrel, Ward and so on are prime examples. Simply put, they are boring. Maybe it started with the success of Floyd Mayweather.

But now, with Terrence Crawford, here's a technician I can get behind. Sound fundamentals, fun to watch, killer instinct, sits down on his punches and is willing to go blow for blow. I'm not jumping on the hype train like a lot of people here, I think Garcia and Pacman at 140 beat him and the latter probably beats him up but I reckon he'd take Mikey and Broner and Prov.

Anyway, win or lose, he's someone I like to watch.

That's a big problem if you as a boxing fan on a boxing forum feel the term of "boxer" is ****** and offensive.
And no, Ward and Mayweather aren't just hit and run. Mayweather actually had a lots of KO wins once he was in his natural weightclass(es), he is relatively small welterweight, I don't wait from any fighter that they can keep their KO wins coming in weigtclasses above their natural weight. Ward, Rigo and other technicians actually don't "run" they are right in their opponents face and they dodge and counter. Ward beat Froch up, with one hand, Rigo made Donaire's eye close and made him run in the last round. Hit and not get hit. I don't know what's the problem with that. Don't mix things up. What Lara did against Canelo or what Algieri did agains Pac. That's the "running".
Otherwise I don't understand how can someone "stationary" and runner at the same time... Seems strange. Ward, Rigo, Dirrell, Charlo bros, Loma, Herrera, Andrade, Mayweather, Crawford... Any of them has a good footwork, they are very far from stationar, but I don't consider them as runners.
I don't get it why so much hate toward the "slick" fighters or "boxers". Use the term of "boxer", "slickster" or "techinican" on a boxing forum as a negative, offensive word? Smh... It's a shame. Like many people would be disappointed cause not all the fighters are offensive KO artists. Why these people don't watch UFC instead? There you'll get tons of KO's and offense. And I don't say this as a negative thing, this is just a fact. If you are love with the KO's and at the same time use the term of "boxer" as a negative word then maybe you should follow a sport where there are many KO's but you haven't got to worry about "slicksteres" or "boxers" who are boring to you.
To the topic. I think Crawford beats everyone at 140, I don't consider Pac as a 140 fighter yet. Danny Garcia has no idea what to do if he can't counter but he has to force the action and Crawford can box backward easily and has a way better footwork than Garcia. He won't run into Danny's counters I guess, Crawford is too smart for that. Matthysse is technically sound and has a big punching power but he had problems with boxers like Alexander or Judah in the past (though I think he beat both of them) and I think Crawford is a more complete package than Devon or that version of Judah.
Postol and Herrera are technical, good fighters, however I think they aren't as good as Crawford. Mikey is too small for this weightclass and he would have a size disadvantage too against Crawford, so I think Crawford beats him as well.
Provodnikov is no threat, as far Crawford doesn't start to brawl with him, and as I said, he seems like a very smart fighter, so he would probably easily outpoint Provodnikov.
As for Broner... Idk... Broner is still a questionmark. Crawford seems to me more complete, but we will see.

One of the things I liked the most is when he got tagged, he came back even harder and put together combinations. Very humble guy too. Look forward to seeing him fight again.

It's funny you say that because Crawford reminds me a lot of a young Whitaker and he was considered boring. But I enjoyed Pea. And I enjoy Mayweather and Ward -- they are all skilled tacticians. Sammy Vasquez Jr. is another boxer-puncher I enjoy but his ceiling is lower than those guys most likely.

Anyway, Crawford impressed me with his subtle counters and head movement. He controls distance very well. And an excellent jab to boot. Beltran wasn't much of a challenge but those skills were hard to overlook. It's a pleasure to watch. However, he is not ready for a Manny Pacquiao at 140 or any other weight. I'd like to see him settle at 140 though. A fight against Matthysse would be perfect.

I like his style and the fact that his management has given him some travel around the country and to Europe! I think the same type of opponent is needed two more times before the step up. At 27 he is just about ready to
try and take on the best in his division. He is exciting and he has the will I hope he has heart to hang in against pressure! I'll watch him!!

Really liking what I see with this guy, great fundamentals. Matthysse would be a good fight, but I still want Broner v Matthysse first.

Yea that would be excellent too and there's a better chance of that happening at this point. If Matthysse gets past him (and he should), a showdown versus Crawford would be great. That's a pipe dream for us though.
