Comments Thread For: Arum Admits Vargas Could Be Mayweather 'Plan B' Foe

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum has a backup plan in place - in the event negotiations fall apart for a 2015 mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Arum is holding talks with CBS CEO Les Moonves, who claims he is capable of securing Mayweather for the fight. But promoters have tried to make Mayweather-Pacquiao for several years without much success.

The man who is certainly a short list candidate to face Pacquiao next - is WBA 'regular' junior welterweight champion Jessie Vargas (26-0, 9KOs).

Lame. Get a better Plan B. Better yet, there should be no Plan B at all and just focus on securing the fight vs. Mayweather.

Why would that be Plan A? These guys want to make money

While I admittedly don't follow the politics that closely, Vargas is a dud fight and Mayweather will find some way out, so I think pursuing the Danny Garcia fight like Roach is talking about is the best scenario

Crawford will get it over Vargas if it comes down to that

              Crawford can actually sell tickets

Keep Pacquiao winning and fighting TR fighters = easy money for Arum.

I get that but Paquauio doesn't have 20+ fights left and he's already lost so it seems like they would want to cash in at this point

Vargas would get even less buzz than Algieri, there's literally no context for why they're fighting each other, neither outcome would really lead to anything
