The shot in the first fight perforated his eardrum so it wasn't really down to his suspected inability to take solid punches. What I find more of a concern was the anxiety attack that he seemed to suffer in the second bout.

Klitschko's sense of assurance and composure in the build up to fights seems to have quite an unnerving affect on his opponents. He unsettled David Haye who is far more assured than Price.

As it stands, I doubt Price's ability to deal with the very thought of facing Wladimir.

hmmm,,,never knew that about his eardrum. that will sure as hell knock your equilibrium off. maybe his punch resistance isn't quite as bad as I thought. like you said his mental toughness is definitely an issue tho as we saw in the rematch. anxiety will drain the hell out of your stamina. that was much more the issue than the Thompson punches he took. he had nothing left. I kinda felt bad for the guy. that's got to be one frustrating way to lose a fight

Especially as it's so avoidable. Trainers the world over will state that boxing is ninety percent mental yet if you asked them what they do to prepare their fighters mentally the majority seem to leave it to chance. That's why I was impressed with Froch for using a sports psychologist. There was a problem which was created by the kind of mindset that he'd allowed himself to get into so he sort out a professional and with their advice he rectified it.

If there's a problem it needs to be addressed. Nobody expects a fighter to be in peak fighting shape without training, but very little is being done to teach fighters the techniques that will get them into peak mental states. I can see that being the next step in the sport. It wasn't long ago that strength and conditioning coaches were the source of derision but now they're common place.

yea,,,,the mental aspect is huge in most professional sports. corrie sanders also used a sports psych for his fight with wlad and it sure didn't hurt him. I wonder if price is seeing one? would be a damn shame if he isnt

David Price is a huge fighter with a massive right hand. Ali wouldn't even last half a round with him!

No doubt in my mind that Vincent Price...in his prime...gives Wlad a good fight.

That's the Price we're talking about, correct?
