Floyd! He beat Maidana twice, and looked spectacular doing it

Canelo and GGG are cringeworthy options. They do not belong in the discussion. Kovalev and Pacquiao are the frontrunners right now based on their Hopkins and Bradley wins. Walters has had a great year too.

I'm looking at Terrence Crawford though. Traveled to Scotland to outpoint Ricky Burns. Took Gamboa's 0 in a high-tech war that is a candidate for Fight of the Year. Now he's facing Beltran for the Lineal Lightweight Championship. Another exciting fight with a stoppage could propel him to the top. He doesn't have the marquee win like Kovalev, Pacquiao, or Walters, but he'll have faced 3 top fighters. It all depends on how the fight plays out this Saturday.

It's a poor selection this year mirroring the state of boxing in 2014.

It's Terence Crawford for me if he beats Raymundo Beltran. His 3 wins aren't stellar but again boxing hasn't been stellar in 2014 and he did travel to beat Burns, and if he wins, he'll have beaten the guy most felt beat Burns as well as a FOTY contender v Gamboa.

Manny Pacquiao is alternative, beat world champions from two weight classes, one of whom held a win over him.

On Gonzalez, a little guy isn't winning this award. It's size-ist, but that's boxing.

Maybe, but on paper Algieri was #3 JWW, an undefeated world champion. We knew he wasn't on Pac's level but if Danny Garcia or Lucas Matthysse beat him it would be considered a good win.

Yup, last year had 4 very strong and equally deserving candidates. I think you should have two great performances against good competition but this year the candidate's resumes just aren't all that impressive. Id go with Crawford if he wins impressively this Saturday. Otherwise Kovalev, Canelo, and Pacquiao because they have the best wins and have fought more than once.

Fighter of the year is unfortunately Sergey Kovalev.
              Explain why that is unfortunate?

                True, but neither is Maidana.

                Bradley is probably top 3.
