Comments Thread For: Froch Details Why DeGale Makes No Sense, Chavez Does

IBF/WBA 'regular' super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24KOs) has no interest in facing Olympic gold medal winner James DeGale (20-1, 14KOs), who is the IBF's mandatory challenger.

During a recent interview, Froch revealed that his promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, was heading to the United States for a meeting with adviser/manager Al Haymon to work out a deal for a fight with Mexican superstar Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-1-1, 32KOs).

Froch would still get paid for the DeGale fight, and no doubt would demand a massive split if the fight happened. He's correct about the Vegas fight though, he's been going on about it for years.

I agree with Froch and I'm happy if Degale-Froch doesn't happen cuz A) Degale is one of my favorite fighters 2) I don't want Froch to lose at this point cuz it will ruin his legacy and want him to be regarded higher than Calzaghe.

However, it is the same when Froch was WBC mandatory for Calzaghe's titles and he decided not to bother with an up and comer and pursue more lucrative ventures. Same thing, at least now he realizes that, hopefully.

He doesn't need to justify wanting Chavez. It's obvious why, and he deserves it.

There's always going to be someone else. Groves was Froch's version of when he wanted to fight Calzaghe. Even if Froch beats DeGale, there will be someone else after that.

I don't hold Calzaghe's choices against him, but the situation isn't the same.

Froch will never be regarded higher than Calzaghe.
