You can say well they are worried if they open up they will get knocked out but if they don't and they try boxing with him they are going to get picked apart & knocked out anyway.
Everybody that goes in the ring with him don't even put a damn right hand behind the jab let alone combinations. How many right hands did Pulev throw? one?
He put one, three punch combination together in the fourth round, what happened? He got through partially with the right hand and landed the left hook behind it jarring Wlads head back.
The last fighter I recall that wasn't afraid to let their hands go and threw combinations was Sanders. When Wlad threw, he threw. When Wlad stopped he threw back.
I am a fan of Wladimir but I won't sit and pretend these fighters are doing anything for his legacy. Most/nearly all of Wladimirs recent opponents have done nothing at all but increase his number of title defenses.
He needs to target Stiverne he is the only fighter I see at HW except Wlad and Povetkin with genuine skill. Takam is alright too as it goes - solid but not a great HW by any stretch but a good, honest fighter.
