Comments Thread For: Kovalev's Trainer Explains How to Beat Floyd Mayweather

Trainer John David Jackson, the man who constructed the strategy for Sergey Kovalev to dominate 49-year-old legend Bernard Hopkins in their IBF/WBO/WBA light heavyweight unification earlier this month, explained what a fighter needs to do in order to defeat WBC/WBA junior middleweight and welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Just like he instructed Kovalev to do with Hopkins, Jackson would tell a fighter to forget about Mayweather's head and focus on hitting every other part of his body - including his arms.

JDJ is now amongst the elite trainers. Listen n learn folks.. He was right about Hopkins and could probably train someone off the streets to defeat Floyd.

He's describing, very generically, what a number of people have tried to do.

Floyd wont fight anyone worth a shlt on even fair or legal grounds anyways. So how to beat Floyd is irreverent. Hes a coward!

The problem with this strategy is the fighter applying this aggressive pressure, intelligently or not, usually gas out and Floyd begins to pick them apart.

I've always advocated to beat Floyd you must first match or exceed his conditioning. That's first and foremost!

On a side note I think it's time to stop referring to this man as Kovalev's trainer.

"You gotta hit him everywhere but the head, you gotta hit him with kidney shots, you gotta hit him with shots that are illegal but you gotta hit him in certain places when you can get away with it. This is boxing, we’re not here for a dance to walk around each other, so you gotta be dirty."

(Yeah I left the BS disclaimer, too lazy to remove it) I love this type of talk. I love dirty fighting. Wish more fighters and trainers had this mentality, it is a ****ing fight.

Emmanuel Pacquiao is the only fighter with the conditioning to apply such an aggressive strategy, intelligently for 12 rounds.
