Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez is 50/50 on Returning For Farewell Fight

Former two-division world champion Sergio Martinez (51-3-2, 28KOs), 39-years-old, is still undecided on whether or not he intends to fight again. Martinez. The fighter was interviewed on TyC Sports, where he stated that he wants to fight "one more time" but plans to retire if he needs to have additional surgery on his right knee.

Martinez has been plagued by knee issues since the aftermath of his decision win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in 2012. He badly re-injured the knee during a victory over Martin Murray in April 2013. After surgeries and rehabilitation, Martinez returned to action in June and was stopped in ten rounds by Miguel Cotto. Martinez appeared to injury his knee after Cotto dropped him in the first round.

Sergio Martinez vs Felix Sturm would be good for a farewell fight, or Sergio can go out a champion by fighting Jermain Taylor

Hard to see a point of risking his knee again...he might just get embarrassed again and to top it off might be a permanent cripple...unless his knee is 100% ready Maravilla should hang em up.

They usually come back for several farewell fights. If his knee is fine and he feels good I bet he goes on and if it does not, farewell!!!!

To be honest, as shot as Taylor is, I would think Jermaine has a very good chance-lol

            50/50 fight imo.

If you're 50/50 on returning, don't return... this is boxing... you need to be 100% committed. He could come back and go the Amir Khan route and basically just fight guys he's always favored against...

You mean if his opponent has good power and lands a clean shot on his chin?

I thought of that as soon as Taylor won the title.
