Comments Thread For: Trainer: Media Should Shame Others Into Fighting Golovkin

There are numerous top middleweights and titleholders — and none of them seem in any rush to fight Gennady Golovkin.

Golovkin’s trainer, Abel Sanchez, was asked what it will take to get those other boxers to face GGG.

“It’s up to you guys to shame them into that. Ask those questions to the guys that are running from us,” Sanchez said on Nov. 7. “Ask those questions. Some guys say they want to fight Golovkin. Why hasn’t their promoter called Tom Loeffler [of K2 Promotions, which promotes Golovkin] and presented an offer?” [Click Here To Read More]

That fans idolize fighters that's why we never get the competitive fights that we want as real fans of the boxing culture itself and not individual fighters...

Too many Floyd, Manny, Cotto, Danny Garcia, and Sergio Martinez **** riders out there who just want to see their "favorite" fighters win and not take on the biggest challenges...

That's why we get Danny Garcia v. Rob Salsa... and Mayweather v. Maidana 2 and Pacquiao v. Algieri

I really hate to include Pacquiao in that list because I know he will fight anyone within reason but following a promoter blindly is Pac's responsibility...

Canelo hasn't ducked an opponent from what I've seen so I'm not putting him on the list but I have a feeling he wants no part of Triple G... he's already stated he needs another year... so he can fight Floyd and Cotto now but Triple G he needs a year... seems suspect...

I also didn't mention that Ring Magazine tends to rank popular and undefeated fighters higher than they should be ranked...

Guys like Mayweather and Andre Ward who hardly challenge themselves are ranked at the top of the list because they don't take challenges and they don't lose...

Andre Ward shouldn't even be ranked on the list anymore but he's ranked number 2...

Pound for Pound list should be:

        1. Wlad - he fought everyone in the division and never ducked anyone and hasn't lost since when?
        2. Triple G - he demolishes everyone and is constantly ducked
        3. Kovalev - similar reasons to Triple G
        4. Pacquiao - ranked above Mayweather because he's shown more of a good faith effort to make the fight and just beat an undefeated top 5 pound for pound ranked fighter...
        5. Mayweather - keeps winning but doesn't take on any challenges - openly ducks fights for health and not-for business reasons ducks tough fights for more money to fight for less money against easier opposition
        6. Bradley - willing to fight anyone and has only lost to Pacquiao..beat Alexander and Marquez handily the same Alexander who dominated Maidana...

As outlandish as this list may be, I do agree that guys like GGG, Kovalev and Thurman should be ranked in the top 10 for the simple fact that none of the guys that ARE in the top 10 and in their divisions are willing to fight them. Andre Ward I believe is a guy that is willing to fight anyone, but is looking for that huge payday and it wasn't there before in the Light Heavyweight division so he was waiting on guys like Chavez jr and GGG to move up. Now that Kovalev has made a pretty good name for himself by defeating the legendary Bernard Hopkins, I'm hoping Ward finally moves up and takes on guys like Pascal, Stevenson and eventually Kovalev because GGG isn't moving up any time soon unless it's to get a huge payday against Chavez Jr which won't be happening now that Jr. is signed to Al Haymon. Jr. won't fight Ward any time soon either unless Ward somehow signs with Haymon as well.

Idiots like you, who parrot what other idiots state are the most ignorant and spineless. Everything you posted has been parroted from others, and your post also implies heavily, that you don't know shit about boxing.

Do you even know the history of the P4P list and what it implies?

Some of you guys should really learn the sport outside of the Xbox and PS3, because the more you post, the more evident it becomes that you're just tagging the popular crowd and parroting what they say.

              Here you go ......

I grew up hearing and believing that the true champ is the man that beat the man. Today a million years later we have paper champions of every sort.

We have lineal champs afraid to fight other champs. Many are looking for an easy way out.

Cotto is the lineal if I am not mistaken, MW champeen of da worl !!!!!!!!

He is first and foremost in my mind for GGG.

Canelo should fight at MW cause its his natural weight and he should be next.

Chavez da JR should follow along with da chickens , you know who they are !!!!

Shame on all who wont' step up and say here I am I'm yer huckleberry !

Don't feel sorry for Golovkin. If he wants to be the best, there are options which involve moving up in weight. By that same token, I don't feel sorry for Ward who can also move up in weight and fight Kovalev.

I find it funny that so many other fighters (usually African American) get chastised for not taking risks but fan favourites get a bly. If Golovkin was to move up in weight and defeat Ward or Kovalev, what would that mean for his career?

To be fair, Canelo has basically been fighting at JMW. Fighting Golovkin would be moving up a weight class and GGG is not the guy you'd want to face at 160 in your first foray into a bigger division.

To fight Golovkin now could render him a shot fighter at the age of 25. I'm all for Golovkin getting a big name opponent but Alvarez has to be sensible about it. Move up, test yourself at 160 against a strong opponent, see how you go, then consider getting in with the champ.
