To be fair when hopkins tried to close the distance he was getting countered only to find himself out of range again forcing him to reset each time....on the outside he was still taking powerful punche so i think he was forced to be conservative with his punches..

He handled kova's punches well so we know his durabilty is out of the question.....footwork was still there ,... speed maybe...or different gameplan?
TBH I don't think a younger Hopkins would have had any better of luck...Hopkins said it best by saying he felt like a SMW fighting a CW...in other words, Kovalev was very strong and a bit too big for Bernard (combined with the fact that Sergey had enough skills to fight on the outside and nullify Hopkins ambush attacks).

I have been a fan of Hopkins throughout the years, but when a guy like Kovalev gets the opportunity to earn respect and does it in convincing fashion, then he needs his props-not excuses. Hell, Bernard isn't even too bummed out about it and he gives Kovalev all the credit in the world, not sure why some of the idiots on here won't.

If hopkins was younger he would have suffered from a KO loss to kovalev.
the reason bhop didn't punch much was because he felt the power and was scared to be countered since thats what happened almost everytime

You know jack **** about boxing if you seriously think Kovalev beats a prime Hopkins. Bernard won't admit that his age was his undoing, but when you take a guy who had no energy and zero reflexes the full 12 rounds, then you are not the world beater your fans pretend that you are. Kovalev is a good fighter, but he's not close to the best fighter Bhop has gotten into the ring with.

Let me guess, and I can check, that you were one of those who thought Hopkins would dominate.. Hopkins just won and unified world titles. If he had zero reflexes he would have been finished in that first round you utter nit wit. You are the one who knows jack sh÷t about boxing.

Ok, opportunities were there for B-Hop but I agree he couldn't pull the trigger.
Took a coldwar beating for DeLahoya's vengance against Showtime, Al Haymon and Stevenson. I would've said fvk Oscar. Fight your own cold-war comeback fight! There's life after boxing. Too old to take a hard beating.

It's funny reading Floyd/Hopkins fans all of a sudden Hopkins is old. Before the fight they're saying Kovalev is just a hype job and considers him just an icing in the cake for Hopkins' resume.
