Comments Thread For: Hopkins: Kovalev Was Better Man, Stuck To His Plan

Sergey Kovalev punished 49-year-old ring legend Bernard Hopkins over 12 rounds on Saturday, unifying three light heavyweight world titles with a lopsided unanimous decision. Hopkins, the ageless “alien,” was brought to earth with a thud when Kovalev knocked him down in the first round.

The hard-hitting Russian powered on from there, never troubled as he added Hopkins’ World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation titles to his own World Boxing Organisation belt. Two judges scored the bout 120-107 for Kovalev, while a third saw it 120-106 for the 31-year-old Russian, who had never been past the eighth round in 26 prior fights.

Hopkins fought like much I expected Kovalev was the aggressor all night and Hopkins could never set his pace now I have sen Bernard lose in the past before decisively but this is the first time he actually admitted it props to Kovalev Hopkins had a good run but it's time.

Wait a minute. Hopkins lost last night? Didn't realize there was a fight on.

I was watching a Cops marathon on Spike TV.

Good sportsmanship from Bhop. I wish him a happy retirement, no point in fighting any more.

That power made Hopkins gun shy for most of the night but he definetly took those punches better than anybody else out there could including Ward, No If only Ward would step up and prove his worth!

Suddenly none of the guys Kovalev had beaten before look like slouches. His power is just too much, they all shell up and look lost.

his power is definately great, but you see as this guy moves up in competition and fights veterans of the sport its very easy to take him into deep waters,as was shown tonite by the very first fighter to go past 8 rounds with him.. and if he continues to fight the best of the best it is more then likely he will go the distance, win or lose...

I don't think you grasp what very easy is, Bhop was a deadman walking the second he tasted Kov's power.
