They fought remember Calzage slapped him around like a step child for 12 roundsBreak it down who's is better? Who fought more quality fighters and actually won? Who had the better run hiding in a division for ten years? Who has the ugliest style between these two almost unwatchable fighters. And does Hopkins resume after losing to Calslappy enhance Joe's legacy?Comment

this is a lie. he always slapped(which is illegal since you aren't allowed to hit with the inside of the gloves) the reason he hurt his hands is because he slapped. he didn't relearn anything. here's one of his earlier fightsThe man who overcame his hand injury by re-learning to box with slaps instead of punches and went 46-0
VS
The man who overcame prison and old age by learning how to box entirely with his forehead, using his hands only as a diversion
When Calzaghe's slap collided with Bernard's Tactical Forehead we all know which came out on top...

genius dude^^^///
now to the thread starter,
you're talking apples and oranges here when it comes to comparing the two.
minus the fact that both men held it down in their weight divisions for so long, that is harder to do than move up in weight frequently like many fighters do these days, and for both to maintain in their divisions for as long as they did, that deserves mad props, and gets my respect!
now, as far as calzaghes resume is concerned, he was spoon fed guys his whole career, and it wasn't towards the end when he started fighting known tougher and higher ranked guys.
calzaghe also fought under the same promotion every time he fought, so basically he was always on home turf, at least about 95%-97% of the time. frank warren pampered joe very well, like all his cash cow fighters.
you have to take into consideration, that Hopkins fought the system as well as his opponents. he fought Don King, who tried to ruin Hopkins career many times, Hopkins fought the whole boxing establishment when he went to the Congressional hearings for the Ali Act, and made a stand for ALL BOXERS, remember he was the ONLY BOXER WHO SHOWED UP TO TESTIFY ON BEHALF OF ALL OTHER FIGHTERS, no one else stepped up, so after that, you think Hopkins was getting a fair shake? hell no.
Hopkins fought against HBO, more so than his fights with their golden goose in the making at that time, jermain taylor. remember, Hopkins broke away from Lou Dibella whom ended up managing Taylor after he split up with Hopkins and started with HBO in grooming Taylor, Hopkins was up against HBO, the Boxing Establishment, and Taylor, you think Calzaghe had any adversity like that at any time of his career when he had to prepare for a fight?
you think Hopkins was getting a fair shake after all that mess? Just listen to the commentary during those fights, or any HBO commentating Hopkins fights til he beat Pascal, they were completely biased against Hopkins, slowly trying to discredit him and his style, even though he was SOUNDLY BEATING their fighters.
HBO commentating always complained about Hopkins, tried to make him out as the dirtiest fighter ever, tried to make him out to be an all around narcissist, etc, and all you dolts bought into it because more than half of the people out there can't think for themselves and kept repeating all their drivel.
If anyone hates Hopkins for his style, then you must abhor Andre Ward, because he is the same, just not as smooth and as crafty as Hopkins.
Had Hopkins NOT been a convict, had he NOT spoke his mind, had he NOT stood his ground, just been a yes man, and let them bully him like they do with other fighters, and kept winning the way he has, he'd been a household name and highly revered a LONG TIME AGO, and all you who dislike him is because you let the commentating shape your thoughts, you'd of loved him had they told you to do so.
Hopkins is by far the better fighter, by far the better example, and a testament that anyone can make a change for the better if you put your mind to it.
Hopkins all day.Comment

Joe did beat Bernard....good win vs Kessler as well but obviously BHOP has a much better resume even though the biggest names were smaller guys moving up to his weight to fight him. The Tarver win was amazing and he schooled Pavlick like he was garbage. Not to mention he's still winning titles at 49. He's an ATG while Joe is a HOF...undefeated record only goes so far...Comment

Cal-slappy only fought Hopkins at the end of his career, other than that, name any credible opponent? Joe was boring to watch, Hopkins fought all comers.
Calslappy was shunned by the British public for being a boring ass fighter, that's why he ended up in the US to fight an old timer.Comment
