This fight needs to happen in MSG.
Canelo can really earn his stripes going to Cotto's house and beating him. I know personally speaking, he could really win me over as a fan if he did that.
In the previous two years, I railed against him as an upstart pampered hero for refusing to fight on Floyd's undercards post "Ring Kings" but then he went on to fight some fights he didn't have to, he fought Trout and Lara and he's winning me over. Beating Cotto, at MSG without controversy, all the respects.
Last year when this fight was proposed, pre-Martinez, I couldn't understand it. I thought glory was with fighting Martinez. Then Cotto stepped up and fought Martinez and Canelo stepped up and beat Lara.
Now it's time for either a passing of the torch or the set up for a rematch/trilogy. There isn't the stink of Al Haymon, this will be a good ol' clash of youth vs veteran, old vs new, PR vs Mex. 2015 overall promises to be the end of the era. These new upstarts overall are a few steps below the fighters of the last decade. These guys are all diva types with sub-par skills.
I hope for the next 10 years, Canelo along with Verdejo, Loma can put boxing on the right path once the old guard finally leaves.
Think about, 2015 could be the end for the following fighters all Hall of Famers: Floyd, Pac, Hopkins, Cotto, JMM, Froch and maybe Martinez. Kinda sad when you think about it. I'd say for all these fighters, I grew up with them, now 31. These new cats, nobody worthwhile, hiding behind their promoters looking for the easiest way to the top
