the list goes on and on and on and on and then stopped a couple years ago.

well lara-canelo was a pride fight IMO though...
Come on Don Mega-these were not voluntary pride fights. These were big money fights with the biggest names in the sport fighting guys at or near their weight-that still happens today.

The difference is there wasn't an NSB and you don't have a few idiots posting about "SRL is dragging Duran up instead of fighting a real ww".

      If you mean by PRIDE.

Fighting just to be known as the best = ended in the 70,80's

Even the 90s it was more about money, the big money fights ruled everything.

Does it matter the price tag of the fight? Does that make them any less of a pride fight?

          Right.

If you can get paid big money to take the pride fight, why not do both at the same time?

Sometimes it seems like boxing fans are the ONLY fans that expect boxers to fight for free or for less.

You are suggesting the primary goal was to prove who was better and not make the money.

The only great fighter who fights primarily for pride is Teofelio Stevenson. ALl the rest do it for the money because its their job.

Money. I think all pro fights are about money and profit.

I think I get your overall point-prior to the ppv era boxers made money for fighting quality opponents. Now guys get paid for different reasons.

Its always better when you get paid more for fighting the best fight rather than fighting the guy with the most twitter followers.

Have to give Canelo credit, when I read the thread title his was the first name that came to mind. His mentality along with his popularity is great for boxing going forward.

I get what you are saying also. I would like all fighters to be paid very hansomely. But I also hate to see fight's not happen because they payday is nearly the same to fight a lesser opponent. Thats where the "pride" comes in IMO
