How is this even a question? Canelo would knock margarita out with ease.
Canelo Alvarez vs Prime Margarito @154? Who wins?

Cintron isn't a legit comparison, but Angulo and Margarito are.
The only fighter Margarito fought at 154 in his prime was Daniel Santos, which was an even fight (at the very least) in terms of scoring and the momentum clearly in Margarito's favour at the time they decided to stop the fight.Comment

I would never try to equate intangibles like heart, courage of Canelo to Cintron - I mentioned that fight because that is an example of a prime Margarito against a decent enough boxer-puncher who was also in his prime. Only to make the point that a prime Margarito, even at 154, is not going to resemble the lethargic Angulo that Canelo fought. Angulo seemed to be at 1/3 of his usual speed, would Margarito be that sluggish? I can't see it. Canelo doesn't have the clinch of Mosley, or the mobility of Cotto...he would be lighting Marg up, yes..but eventually I think hed be forced to stop and be faced with sequences where he is having to fight off his shoulder, in a shell like Cintron. Hes shown he can do that but it's tiring to do that, dish out an onslaught and not work in a clinch at some point.Cintron? Lol. You honestly can compare Canelo to Cintron? Canelo has already shown to be leagues above Cintron in terms of durability, skill and courage.
Angulo is a sugnificantly stronger puncher than Marg ever was an he couldnt even get Canelo to blink...and he still lost that round youre talking about. Canelo was in control 100% of the time. The only comparisons that seem accurate imo are mosley vs marg or canelo vs angulo.
Canelo is bigger, stronger, faster, seems as durable, and more skilled. I don't see how Marg doesnt get stopped via ref honestly. Marg had an intense will, atg type chin and stamina for days but Canelo is a nightmare matchup...Marg was really not that great. Canelo brutalized Angulo with no signs of stopping the assault through 10 rounds and chased Lara all night. Canelo doesnt have the most impressive tank around but its by no means as terrible as advertised. It's not bad considering his size and weight class and the speed he displays with good power not to mention his improving defense. I give Marg almost no shot...
I don't disagree that he has been making improvements in the stamina, but there was a moment in the Angulo fight where he got tired..against an Angulo who wasn't doing that much. The crowd seemed to sense as much and they ended up booing the stoppage. My only point is..had that been Margarito, I imagine he would have pounced on that moment and things might have gotten interesting.Last edited by LA_2_Vegas; 11-05-2014, 12:43 AM.Comment

yea having an "even" fight with the "great" daniel santos is proof he can deal with canelo......lmao. face it, margarito is below average above 147 because he's doesn't have the size advantage......he wouldn't have his special wraps vs canelo either.Cintron isn't a legit comparison, but Angulo and Margarito are.

Santos outweigh him by over 10 pounds and Margarito was still taking it to him. The cut wasn't even that bad for them to stop the fight but what done is done. That's not something an average person does in his prime.
I could say the same thing about Canelo, he wasn't all that at WW.Comment

I thought the fight against Santos was razor close, looked like the PR commission stopped it when Santos had the small lead. Margarito was buzzed pretty good in that fight too. I'm not saying he was robbed but it was convenient they stopped it when Santos went up on the cards.Santos outweigh him by over 10 pounds and Margarito was still taking it to him. When I say average I mean he wasn't the terminator he was at 147, Margarito at his best was bigger then any welterweight and could take anything they dished out. He would be hit but eventually make the guy succumb to his pressure and punches. He lost a lot of those advantages at 154.
And yes Canelo wasn't that good at Welterweight, he was just a kid learning the trade. Last time this thread came up I said Margarito kills him at Welterweight but at 154 Canelo takes it.Comment
