If he had any intention of fighting GGG, then sign the 1 fight extension for 12-17m. That's a no brainer, provided he did want the fight.

Chavez Jr-Golovkin PPV, followed by a giant Froch-Chavez Jr PPV. Two fights that together would generate $50m+ on PPV, plus whatever revenues brought in on the gate, sponsors, etc, yet Chavez Jr would only be walking away with, in the best of scenarios, $17m.

Top Rank would've leveraged 1 fight into cashing in on two fights from a prime Chavez Jr, likely to the tune of netting $20m, easily, off of the Chavez name. After watching scummy promoters rob your father blind, why would you willingly let another scummy promoter try to rob you the same?

Haymon sure gets his fighters paid, but i just dont know. Theres something always seems off when it comes to Haymon, as if theres some behind close doors stuff going on with him.

As long we get the fights we want,his fighters get paid while everything being on the upside, im all for boxers getting a good deal. But again, something just seems too good to be true.

The thing that is "off" about Haymon is that he's already made the money that he was going to make in the music business, therefore he's free to be far less skivvy with the fighters that he works with under his boxing banner.

Not sure how accurate this is, as I haven't seen the actual contract, but apparently Haymon only take half of what most other managers would take, and he only even takes that much of a cut once his fighters are earning purses over $100,000.

You add in that he's got a stellar relationship with a primetime TV network (Showtime) and good relationships with a host of other promoters (DiBella, Warriors, Gary Shaw, Goosen, GYM, Matchroom, etc), and the fighters affiliated with Haymon have access to tons of fight cards, a lot of different TV dates, and only have to even start cutting money to Haymon once they finally get positioned into big exposure fights.

Not a bad deal, especially as long as you stay in shape and keep putting on good fights (win or lose).

Dude GTFO of here. There's not chance Chavez makes 17m+ for his next 2 fights. Or even 12m to get bludgeoned by GGG, super generous.

Funnily enough when La Bomba fought Ward fight negotiations were already in progress when he signed with Haymon so it was kinda considered a one off, but then Rodriguez recently fought again on the GGG - Rubio card so there's clearly lines of communication.

I'm guessing that given Haymons dearth of assets at LHW (he's got, basically Stevenson and Fonfara who've already fought and La Bomba who was coming off a loss) it made sense to work with HBO cos there was no realistic slot or call for a LHW fight on SHO and La Bomba had been outta the ring for nearly a year.

Is does kinda imply though that it's Haymon more than HBO that is the stumbling block - after all, if HBO are willing to televise La Bomba, why not other Haymon fighters?

What does this mean in regard to the Froch fight.

Likely or not?

I'd say it's unlikely in the foreseeable unless he can prove he's a free agent.

Even then Hearn seems close to HBO who would be putting the money up for the PPV fight not Sho, and HBO don't roll with Haymon.

I'd venture Chavez Jr. v Froch is most likely off (if it was ever considered on).

Funnily enough, despite Chavez jr being an attractive fight for the name recognition and the money he brings to the table I wouldn't be desperately concerned if didn't see him fight again.

I woulda liked to have seen the GGG and Froch fights, but that was more about seeing Jr get smacked around for the Vera debacle, raising GGGs profile and earning the Cobra a nice nest egg.

If the rumours from a few months back are true Haymon was talking about something like a $36 mil contract for Jr, which, to me at least, is ridiculous given both his mediocre talent and poor track record for reliability. If he can make that much I guess the kid can't really be blamed, but somehow I don't see things quite going to plan.

IDK - it seems like Uncle Als longer term plans are going to start to become more apparent over the next year or so, so I'm willing to suspend judgement until there's a clearer picture of what's going on. Nonetheless the increasing number of controversies around Haymon fighters as 2014 has worn on is making me kinda sceptical of just how 'good' he is for the fighters in the vast stable he's building up.

I`ve heard that subsequent fight of La Bomba on HBO was negotiated by Haymon as part of an agreement to fight Ward. HBO honored its obligations, but televised Rodriguez undercard fight on HBO Latino, not main HBO.
