In Cotto/Canelo you not only have the biggest rivalry in boxing, you have the two largest boxing fan bases in boxing, and you have each country bringing in their number 1 popular fighter.

Showtime knows they'll have a hard time competing with that.
It'll be equally hard for both. Will be interesting to see who blinks. And if Cotto doesn't want the fight in Texas then they'll probably have to move the fight to June, when NY makes sense. It's doubtful they make the fight for anywhere else and Mayweather seems to have the MGM sewed up.

If it's gonna be done in Vegas, I say do it in May. Let the Mexicans celebrate and show up and then just beat Canelos ass.

It will be tough, more considerably more for Mayweather, who needs to put up big numbers for his PPV fights.

And the Canelo/Cotto fight won't be in June. There is more money in May. The fight will be in Vegas, where any number of venues would welcome the fight with open arms. Taxes are too high in NYC for a fight of this magnitude.

Well if Mayweather decides to fight in May, the MGM is his. Would be suicidal for them to try and put the fight anywhere else in Vegas that night. If the threat of them convinces Floyd not to fight in May then yes, I can see your scenario.

floyd will be forced to move if cotto v canelo gets made for may.

floyd has to put up his own money to stage fights (allegedly) and if that's true he will no doubt swallow his own pride before losing a lot of his own money to produce his fights.

floyd, haymon, TMT dont have the built in ground work and autonomy to put up their own ppvs like top rank does.

                  I think it does.
Particularly because I don't think Khan gets through Alexander and even if he does he won't look good, which will make selling him as an opponent tough.

If Cotto/Canelo gets made, what fight do you think would be able to compete with it?

Only Pac/May and we know that ain't going to happen.

Yeah if Khan doesn't look good against Alexander but sc****s by, that'll be a tough sell for Mayweather. As a fan, I wouldn't buy that over Cotto-Canelo. But Mayweather always has a back-up plan and I do wonder if Cotto is still a free agent or not. If he is then that would really dent Canelo's plans. Seems unlikely though but it has happened before.

I'm sure DLH has already thought about Mayweathers back up plan to offer the fight to Cotto if Khan looks bad against Alexander. This is why they're trying to start the negotiations now, 7 months out. GB and Arum want the fight locked before the December fight.
