Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Promoter: Murray is The Toughest Foe To Date

In another major coup for Golden Gloves, Rodney Berman confirmed late last Saturday night he has scooped the rights for the fight between unbeaten WBA, IBO and WBC Interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) of Kazakhstan will fight top-rated Martin Murray (28-1-1, 12 KOs) of the UK in Monte Carlo on February 21.

Golden Gloves and K2 Promotions announced the bout minutes after Murray’s WBC Silver belt defence against Domenico Spada in Monaco on Saturday.

No better than Geale or Macklin.

I'm sure there are others like myself who thought Murray beat Martinez that night in Argentina.

You can say the division is weak, but it would look competitive if GGG wasn't in the picture. It's just no one can pose a threat to Golovkin, the only one in the division with such high class experience is Cotto, Martinez, Taylor, and Sturm (I guess)

I thought there were 2 middleweights who could go the distance with GGG. Murry and Geale. I didn't think either could beat him, but I thought they could take it to a points decision.
After seeing What GGG did to Geale, I fear that, despite his toughness and determination, the same thing is going to happen to Murry.

If Golovkin didn't exist we would have had a golden age of British middleweights.

Nope. Probably even a little worse than Geale.

I agree. Sergio's injuries made this guy seem like something more than he really is.

That said, he is what passes for a top middleweight these days so Golovkin is doing good by going after him. It's a necessary fight for cleaning out the division.

I would take Rubio, Geale, Macklin, Rosdado, Proksa all over Murray in fights and maybe Stevens if he could get past that guards of Murray's and not just plod around. Murray's about on par ability wise with Adama, and likely less durable. His claim to fame is losing a close fight with Martinez who had a torn knee and broken hand and earlier a draw against Sturm which was as much due to a judging lash-back because of the Macklin robbery.

Murray drops his right hand a LOT, wouldn't be surprised to see a deja vu of the Rubio fight.

I also think he beat Martinez but Martinez had already deteriorated a lot by then. Not nearly as bad as by the Cotto fight but he was definitely thoroughly washed up, so it's hard to gauge much about Murray.

Agreed, I have no problem with the fight. Especially for the Monte Carlo.

I just get annoyed when people act like Murray is so good because of losses to Sturm and broke down Sergio. It's not like he was robbed in either fight.
