Great question. I grew up watching Roy Jones Jr. in the 90's he
basically cleaned out the entire Light Heavyweight division with
winning all of the belts in the division. Roy Jones Jr. defeated all
of the top Light Heavyweights in the world with the exception of
Dariusz Michalczewski and avenge the loss to Montell Griffin in the
rematch also, beating a much younger Bernard Hopkins and James
Toney. Even though, he lost (twice) to Antonio Tarver Roy beaten
him plenty of times before in the amateurs and the first meeting in
the pros. I would like for RJJ to try and avenge that defeat with his
rival Glengoffe Johnson that's a fight that even now Roy Jones can
win. And without question RJJ is a first ballet HOF with a very great
impressive resume. Floyd Mayweather is now what Roy Jones Jr. was
during his great run in the 90's P4P the best boxer in the world today.

Everybody knew that Ruiz fight was a joke. He took the easiest belt he could at heavyweight. Even Toney beat Ruiz (even though he was dirty). He got that belt the same way Broner got the belt at WW.

Prior to the Mayweather fight, Oscar De La Hoya had been knocked out by a body shot against BHop. Mosley was nearly 39 years old and wasn't the same fighter. When Roy fought James Toney, Toney was a young (26), undefeated champion and was already considered a future HOF. He also had more experience, 20 more fights than Roy, (44-0) and dominated at 160-168. So yeah James Toney & Bernard Hopkins was greater than anybody Mayweather had defeated. If you exclude Roy's disqualification, His record would've been 50-0 with 40 KO's before his first real loss and the only man in the history of boxing that started his career at 154 to win the Heavyweight Championship.

Roy was the man, no doubt but beating Ruiz was like Mayweather beating Gatti. We all saw the outcome before it even happened. Both guys have good resumes but from top to bottom, Mayweather's is better

                vs ruiz.

Roy started at 154 and moved all the way up to 205 to fight ruiz who was 230 at weigh in.
thats 51 pounds in move up and was out weighed 25 pounds at weigh in.thats 76 pounds total.

Floyd started at 130 and moved up to 154 .thats 24 pounds.
if he moved up to 160 thats 30 pounds.

Why hasnt floyd gone for his heavyweight title which in boxing is a top3 alltime division beside welter and heavy.
its like him trying to take on anyone champ at 160 or froch at 168.imagine floyd vs froch at wembley??

Thoughts on roy accomplishment compared to what floy would have to do to be even close to such a great feat.
                Official weights:

That's easy to say, but Ruiz was coming off a victory vs Holyfield and was 30 plus pounds heavier than Roy.

There are many tangibles and variables that you're omitting, which would make such a question extremely subjective, even in a hypothetical sense.

                    * Body type and Body mass being the most important element omitted.

Floyd's body type and frame is too small for him to compete with anyone heavier than 170lbs. The only reason he's been able to get away with fighting guys who step in the ring @170lbs is because he is very agile and has good technique and speed. Still, that can only take a person so far in boxing before physical realities become manifest.

Some may disagree, but I believe Ruiz was the perfect target at the perfect time for RJJ to snatch the HW crown. This fact doesn't diminish the accomplishment, but it does add perspective to the argument. RJJ, IMHO was at best a LHW, and what made RJJ able to compete in the heavier classes is the same reason Floyd can compete at 154lbs. But they both have realistic maximum weight classes in which they can or could remain competitive. Floyd - 154lbs | RJJ - 168-175lbs

Jones' resume, physical gifts = greater

Floyd's boxing IQ, skills, longevity = greater
