Just because the fight was a better match up doesn't mean it should do higher ratings when he's on a popularity ascension

edit: these numbers are really impressive going up against FSU vs. Notre Dame saturday night as well
But the Geale fight was a surprising downturn in his ratings. He was steadily climbing before that, and peaked at like 1.4 or 1.5 against Stevens. Then suddenly he's at half that against Geale. Now he's back up for Rubio.

It's weird to me. I guess it's another disappointment in a year full of disappointing ratings.

Having Donaire on the undercard helped a lot.

This is boxing, you don't go from where GGG was two years ago to where he's currently at by being a self-made man. When you have a monster like HBO constantly giving you exposure in the biggest city in the world televised on the premier boxing network, that's not necessarily being self-made. Specially when you're fighting second tier fighters, that's how you develop hype about being a power puncher and the most avoided fighter in the sport.

Bull****, how the hell is he a self-made man if HBO is serving it up? You claimed he had no hype from HBO yet he's become a star in a span of two years in which he's fought nothing but second-tier fighters. Don't make it seem as if he's out there slaying dragons and pulling off sensational upsets.

He's doing exactly what we expect, and that's KO dudes who have no business being in the ring with him. HBO is serving up fights in which he will look sensational, it's not too much to ask that Golovkin KO's these dudes. A self-made fighter enjoys the popularity and stardom after beating elite talent not while he's still working his way up.

You crazed. GGG makes it look easy because he puts in the work. Who else is knocking out top 10 opponents in 3 rounds or less? How is this not self made? You think that just happens by itself? HBO is just kind enough to put it on TV and let us enjoy it.
