Doesn't matter what I think heading in. What happened in the ring told the story.

Ward's inactivity has nothing to do with anything. When he pulled GGG's card, GGG's management made it very clear that they weren't interested in that fight. If Ward never fights again, doesn't change the fact that GGG didn't want none.

The man withstood 11 rounds of brinks so he aint phased

GGG doesn't want to fight Ward yet not because he's scared or doesn't want none as you say but rather because he sees more attractive fights with Chavez, Canelo or Cotto in his future.

Don't pretend as if Ward wouldn't do the exact same thing if he was in GGG's shoes. Hell Ward for a long time was calling Chavez for a fight. When he realized he wasn't getting it and it looked like Froch was going to get it, he criticized Froch.

Golovkin called out both ward and froch yesterday. So he is clearly willing to take that fight now. Read rafael's piece on it. Ward would not be golovkin's first choice as ward brings almost no money to that fight. Froch, in london, would be huge. Chavez jr would make a lot of money. So would golovkin cotto or alvarez. Ward not so much. Thus, while i think ggg would take the fight, it is the highest risk lowest reward fight out there. Certainly would not be his first choice. Ward would make that an ugly fight. If he had a ref that let him wrestle around, i would probably favor him. If not, he could not take golovkin's power. Ward got dropped hard in his fight on the mayweather mitchell undercard against a nobody. He fought awfully after that and got a questionable decision. Can't say that i would see him as too anxious to fight someone with such murderous power as ggg. Ggg is not very big. In was on the floor for tonight's fight and he walked right by me. He is probably 5'9". Ward would have a huge size advantage and would be very successful grapling the smaller ggg.

                • The one thing that you have to appreciate about GGG is that he never fights to his opponents level. He's destroyed all of his opponents recently. Regardless of what you think about his opposition other top level fighters fight lower level fighters as well and they don't make it look this easy.

For example, my guy Lara, who I think is a great fighter, fights to his opponents level too often. He's just not consistent and it's hurt his career. He gets draws with fighters that have no business being in the ring with him like Molina and Vanes. He gets dropped by Angulo. Goes the distance with Freddy Hernandez. Takes his foot off the gas against Canelo.

I can name other fighters as well. But GGG is consistently dominant against fighters that are worse than him.

                  • Pavlik got him outta there almost six years ago.

Rubio had already lost when he signed the contract fighting against Gennady. No surprise there.

With that said. I really can't see anyone stopping Gennady at the moment. Cotto is past it, has had a lot of rough fights but has tons of experience and packs enough power to make Gennady respect him, I think.
Quillin, well I don't know. Highly likely - he is still untested (like Gennady), but it seems like he doesn't want to share the ring with Gennady.
Canelo and Lara, if they move up - maybe. They have the skills but I don't know if they pack the punch to keep Gennady at bay.
