  • Comments Thread For: Carl Froch: If No Chavez, 'Strong Chance' That I'll Retire

IBF/WBA 'regular' super middleweight champion Carl Froch has advised Sky Sports News that there is "a strong chance" he will retire from boxing if a deal is not reached to face Julio Chavez Jr. on a 2015 date in Las Vegas.

James DeGale, who faces Marco Antonio Periban next month, is Froch's IBF mandatory challenger and says he will be ready to fight the champion as early as late January.

After drawing 80,000 fans to May's rematch with George Groves, Froch admits he is not mentally motivated to fight someone like DeGale. Based on his latest statements, he would rather retire than make the mandatory defense.

Just as Calzaghe couldn't get up for Froch , nothing new at least Joe fought Hopkins and Jones and hopefully we don't have to go through a Chavez fight, although in some ways you can't begrudge him it wouldn't it be great were he to fight the best super middleweight in the world !

I don't see Froch retiring without at least one more big payday. It's just that his options are actually quite limited.

Retire then. Not interested in him fighting and losing and then blaming it on him not being able to get motivated.

I don't see GGG moving up as long as the Canelo fight is alive. They should make him an offer though. Who wouldn't like to see it?

Why is Froch acting as if fighting Chavez Jr would be career defining? Sure he'll get a decent payday but who is Chavez Jr and what has he done that's so great that Froch is basing his decision to retire on whether he fights Chavez or not?

Just As Well; Chavez Backed Away From Canelo & GGG; Certainly Won't Fight Froch

Chavez is a headcase; even his dad says so. He'll wait too long to get serious about fighting, and waste away his best years, just as Andre Ward is doing. Screw these clowns; quit considering them for any fight. Throw Stephenson in that boat too.

I was about to say the same thing man, Calzaghe ducked Froch at the end of his career and Froch was crushed when that happened (and rightfully so, because that fight would have been awesome). Now Froch is going to retire and effectively duck Degale as a result. On the one hand, Froch is a true warrior, there's no denying that. On the other hand, and perhaps most importantly, I BET FROCH will look back one day and realize he did to Degale what Calzaghe did to him - and he will regret that.

Why not have that fight, make those extra £4,000,000+ ($6.5 MILLION+ approx) and enjoy the rest of his life knowing he didn't ***** out like Calzaghe did to him?

Is Degale the NEW Froch? (in the sense that the top fighters in the division were initially afraid to fight him).

Beating up a stoner would be absolutely massive for mah legacy, the legacy of Carl 'the Cobra' Froch.
