No, people are tired of Floyds boring style and don't want to shell out a days work (for a lot of people) to watch a boring or one sided fight. If there is a compelling matchup people will pay it's that simple. Stop making assumptions on boxing because Floyd is doing ****ty, you'll see on May 5.
This isn't about Floyd. Get him out of your ********.

It's about PPV numbers overall. These guys just aren't doing the numbers.

"All the numbers boxing has been getting on pay-per-view have been terrible. It's not disappointing; it just is what it is. - Bob Arum
And not just that, but boxing popularity is down. It gets sad when you mention boxing to casuals and they saw, I thought boxing was dead.

To casuals on the street, when you ask them to mention a current boxer today, the only people they can think of is Pacquaio and Mayweather. The rest of the boxers are nonexistent. ****ed up, but that's the scenario.
Where do you come up with this BS?

Guerrero is a Mexican and Floyd fights him on a Mexican holiday.

Lara has so little mass appeal it's not even funny, he doesn't speak English something that both Guerrero and Bradley do. Cubans don't care about Cuban boxers and the boxing fans in general except for NSB don't care about Cuban professional boxers either. It's a sad reality but it is a reality.

But even then Canelo does $350k with Lara on a day that wasn't a Mexican holiday.

Just think of Floyd's numbers with Zab and this was a highly anticipated fight.

To say Canelo can't draw and is being demoted is lunacy.

Since when a figher gets 4 mil to fight on non pay per view a demotion?

Canelo averages b/w 3 to 5 million on pay per views. So why do you think HBO offered him so much money to fight on Cable? Cause if they didn't he would've fought on pay per view, thus why!

Guerrero is a Mexican, but he's not a home grown Mexican like Canelo. And he didn't have a name for many years. His biggest buzz came from beating Berto. Now I'm not arguing whether or not Guerrero is more exciting than Lara. I'm only talking about popularity before Guerrero fought Floyd. Guerrero and Lara were pretty much in the same boat. Even if for sake of argument, Guerrero was more popular, it wasn't by much.

Canelo to me isn't the draw like Pac and May. He's not doing millions on his own. Not even close. I'm not saying Canelo isn't a star. I think he is, but he isn't a PPV cash cow like that. I think in the future, after Pacquaio and May are gone, he'll be at that point.

Is that really a good thing though? Long term, he could very well end up losing money. If he would've taken the 1.4 million and beat Korobov in November, a fight with Jacobs or Taylor could've been made for early next year where he'd probably get more than $500k to face either of them. After all, Garcia got like $800k to face Salka, so I'm assuming Haymon can get Quillin close to $1million for a fight with Jacobs or Taylor.

But instead he's gonna sit on the sidelines for the rest of the year, get stripped of his belt, and wait for Haymon to get him an equal pay day months after he should've gotten it.

I know these scenario's include a good amount of assumptions, but I don't think anything is a reach. It is very plausible that Quillin lost a good amount of money by listening to Haymon and not fighting Korobov.

In all fairness, Mayweather and Pacquaio are not doing millions on their own either. Neither guy has cracked a million in a while without a very good B side. And unless they fight each other or pac vs Canelo or IMo Floyd vs GGG, neither will do a million again.

The only reason Canelo isn't doing more pay per views than Pac and Floyd is because he came after them. Once they are gone, he'll be doing similar numbers and he is not close to them as far as skill level but he has crazy mass appeal.

              • How does boxing work in lines with the Ali act?

Does a manager need a license the same way a promoter needs a license? Is Al Haymon a manager or strictly an adviser?

If he's been getting away with skirting the law and playing a role in both the promotion and management, would this clause in the contract prove he holds more than an advisers role?

I'm just guessing here, but if he's not licensed, his contracts would be private, and unless someone was disgruntled and went to an authority, there would be no way to investigate.

He has to have a license or the contract is void I would imagine, because it would make him a promoter. If he is an advisor, he can't speak on behalf of who his fighter can fight because that would qualify him as a promoter, either way what he is doing is probably illegal.

I'm no lawyer but I imagine anyone can be investigated with or without a warrant it's the electronic age.

                    Haymon is a licensed manager.

Where the legal stuff gets tricky is because he hAs so much control over networks and promoters, that he basically works hand and hand with them for his own benefit.

The problem with this is the manager is expected to represent ONLY the fighters best interest. His job is to make sure promoters and networks aren't taking advantage of them.

But if Haymon is basically controlling the promoter and network, that may not be the case. Especially when you consider how richard Schaefer was basically handing him his entire roster of fighters.

Many of his figures have 0 promotional contract. But in the open market a lot of them would make major signing bonuses with a company like top rank. But Haymon won't allow it, so question remains, is he representing his fighters interest, or his own and other peoples interest?
