That was before he began working with promoters only on a fight by fight basis. Ever since he started doing that he has better leverage in negotiations since promoters have to compete with each other if they want his services.

"working with promoters" = Top Rank. Both of his post Trout fights had TR involved. I agree about having leverage, but you don't get that by burning bridges like Chavez. Cotto and TR split amicably at the time.

Is that why Cotto insisted on a CW vs Martinez, and one eyed Margarito?

Nope that was about being the A side.............

Expect that to be on display when he ask for 152-153 for Canelo

You're missing the point. Cotto is not signed long term with Top Rank, and in fact it is his ability to work with any promoter to get any fight that allows him to be in line for big paydays now.

I didn't miss the point, thats why I said it's good to have leverage. But that's only worth something if there's 2 or more sides to play off each other. If he's not welcome at TR, who
                s bidding vs whom?

In Cotto's case it was Lou DiBella bidding against GBP.

If that's all he's worth why do all these fighters have their tongues hanging out trying to fight him? Golovkin, Ward, Froch etc. He's their golden ticket to US PPV.

Ward got $2m to fight Rodriguez yet we're supposed to believe that's all Chavez is worth in a fight with Golovkin?

Let's be clear, if Arum made Chavez a decent offer without having to sell his soul the fans would already have seen Chavez v Golovkin or Chavez v Froch by now.

But Arum doesn't care, same reason he's going to give us Alvarado-Rios 3 instead of Rios-Provodnikov. Recycled in-house shite. As well as the Mexican fans, Arum has denied UK fans and Golovkin fans because he can't stand to see Chavez walk away.

I get it, it's "business" but as a boxing fan I don't have to like it or his methods.

They want to fight him for the exposure. Not because he's a cash cow or brings his opponents huge pay days. Chavez is valuable because of his name alone. If he wasnt the son of an ATG, he'd be fighting on ESPN.

Just look at his resume. Who has he really beaten that's note worthy? The one time he stepped up to the plate he got embarrassed by Sergio Martinez.

Chavez is ******. Turning down $7+mil for just a 1 fight extension is just insane. Unless he's fighting the winner of Canelo/Cotto, Chavez will not make anywhere close to $7mil.
