    Shifting is Necessary

The boxing coaches are all wrong. Shifting to punch and position is a lost art and needs to be applied. In Provodnikov-Bradley, Provodnikov could have come over time after time across Bradley's pitty-pat jabs with his right hand had he stepped forward and closed the gap. I know why boxing trainers don't teach this. Because they are either ignorant of the skill or boxing pushes outside boxing which clearly benefits the outside boring boxers who put crowds to sleep and ruin interest in boxing. To step forward and position yourself, will cut the ring off which makes for better fights. Wake up, fans of real fights. This is necessary for boxers to carry on. Dempsey and Fitzsimmons and Ketchel knew something that clearly most trainers and fans do not.
Watch how GGG and Pirog destroy opponents with shifting. Not just punching but placement.

I agree sugar ray Robinson and Mosley would scorch guys with that technique. Boxings turned into a ***** sport where guys like Lara are applauded.

The creator of this video is really desperate for views aren't they?

This is not 'shifting'. Shifting is distance control via distributing the weight from your rear leg to your front.
This is overextending and the reason its rarely taught is because the opponent will make your right hand fall short or slip outside and hit you coming in with a counter right hand.

I think there's a difference between bodyweight shifting and the 'shift punching' discussed in the video, which seems to involve closing distance whilst punching or feinting from alternating stances.

IDK how useful it is overall, but I've seen it used effectively a coupla times. I don't think it's quite the 'lost art' the Tube clip suggests though. As you mention it's potentially risky technique but unusual enough that it could a useful addition to a fighters arsenal if used appropriately.

So boxing is boring as hell and guys can't cut off the ring because why? They are being taught this is bad, but watch GGG. He uses it often. It works and it is the future if the sport has one. The technique can be misused, but when used effectively works. It's proven on the video. Duran used it and look what happened.

I agree. Mosley and Robinson were awesome but would have been moreso with this technique applied properly. His fight with Mayweather would have been over with early.

I definitely think so. GGG is not just good because of his power. It's placement which shifting serves very well.

                Seriously?

To all the naysayers, can you really say that boxers should not use this technique? Because cutting off the ring is going so well. Yeah right. This closes the distance and turns sleepovers into slug fests which turns casual fans into hardcore fans and gets the rabble out of the way. GGG has been taught way better than most which is why fighters fear him.
