Fighters who are massive for their weight class?

Having the weigh in the day before the fight was one of boxing's all time ****** moves. In the days of same day weigh ins 5 pounds was about the most a fighter could put on in the few hours between the weigh in and the fight. Now guys like Chavez put on 20 or more pounds and hurt their health and their performance. You have guys fighting two weight classes below their natural fighting weight and they almost have to because the other fighters are doing it. Mayweather and Pacquiao are two of the only fighters who don't weigh much more on fight night than they do at the weigh in.Comment

Do you have a link to garcia struggling to make weight? I knew he was having trouble but not that muchduran was a LW when they weighed in on the same day. you can't be that big when you have to do that.
brandon rios was a gigantic lightweight. i think he took drugs to get down in weight, and healthily rehydrate.
chavez jr at 160 was about as big as you're ever gonna see. dude was 182 lbs on fight night, which is a cruiserweight.
i remember mike jones being a freaking enormous welterweight.
so was paul williams. williams would enter the ring as a SMW by the end of his WW run. 160-164 lbs, if you can believe that.
mikey garcia, light rios, may take drugs to get down in weight. his struggles making 126 were documented on HBO. the kid could hardly walk back to his hotel room, and was puking in an elevator.Comment

Totally agree, ability to cut weight is now a boxing attribute alongside reach, stamina and the like.Having the weigh in the day before the fight was one of boxing's all time ****** moves.
