Marquez-John was a bigger upset than Calzaghe-Lacy, IMO.

Baldomir-Judah is easily the biggest upset of the year, so far.

yeah, i agree with everything said basically.. i also see Calzaghe's win going on the "best performance" ballot for 2006 as well..

it's not the upset of the year. it was a great performance by Joe. the judah baldomir fight was just a full out upset. when you look at calzaghe vs. lacy before the fight, you think good fight. you look at judah vs baldomir and you automatically believe judah will take an easy win.

Everyone has made very good points about this... Baldomir over Judah was the upset of the year, and I'll be shocked if there's a bigger one this decade, much less this year. I also agree that Chris John's easy decision win over Marquez was a much bigger upset than the Calzaghe win. Lacy was only a slight favorite, and many people including myself, thought it could go either way. That being said, I did pick Lacy, and was horribly wrong. Calzaghe's performance was, hands down, the best performance I've seen this year, and I agree that if he picks up another big win, that he'll be a very, very strong Fighter of the Year candidate. I do agree with Restless that the manner in which Joe dominated could be viewed as a major surprise, but I don't think you can call it an upset. To me, O'Neil Bell's win over Jean-Marc Mormeck was more of an upset than Calzaghe's win. The analogy to Mayweather-Corrales is painful for us Chico fans, but pretty accurate...

I don't think it was an upset. I knew Lacy would trail on all cards and would need a KO to win otherwise Joe C would be the easy favorite. Thing is, I expected a closer match.

Shut out of the year easily. There will not be a championship fight of that caliber won so widely as that one for YEARS to come.

No offense, but premature thread. We only started the 3rd month of the year... TOO EARLY.
