Lacy-Calzaghe: Candidate for upset of the year?

And hear me out.. not because Calzaghe won, because many predicted that, but because of the way Calzaghe won, which was basically in dominating fashion.. not even the most diehard Joe Calzaghe fan could've honestly predicted the fight would go the way it did.

I don't think it would win for upset of the year, just saying it should be among the nominees for it being such a shock/surprise.

Something Doug Fischer said, that i agree with, was that there hasn't been a, suppose to be, close fight, being this one-sided since Mayweather-Corrales in 2001.. thoughts?

Yeah it was a shocker in the fashion he won but not the fact that he won as you already stated.I have begun thinking after watching the beating 3 times that it may have been more of Lacy not doing the things he should have been doing more so than everything Joe did because Lacy just allowed it and kept coming foward without throwing any combos what so ever most of the fight.Anyone who has watched most of Lacys fights knows that was not him in there he always throws plenty of punches.I am not making excuses Joe is no doubt an excellt fighter but it could have been alot closer and possibly even could have been a KO win for Lacy had he put some punches together rather than use his head as defense.

More people picked Morales to beat Manny than picked Lacy to beat Joe, and look what Manny did to Morales.

There are other fights that fit this bill as well.

Lacy-Calzaghe is not the upset of the year. It may be performance of the year.

I underestimated Calzaghe. I never seen him fight. This isn't no upset everyone i mean EVERYONE thought Lacy would KO Calzaghe. Lacy was completly one dimensonal in that fight! This by far doesn't go for upset of the year IMO. I think Judah vs Baldimor goes for that.

If you are from the U.K., I doubt they saw an upset that night. They knew all along. Judah/Baldomir is prolly a bigger upset. Although I was shocked that Lacy got beat the way he did. I thought Lacy had a chance up until the 10th 11th round to unload on Calzaghe but watching the replay Calzaghe was just too quick.

Not a big upset, just an upset in my opinion.

Calzaghe wasn't just to quick he was also to accurate for lacy. Landing so many punches. Hopefully Lacy comes back strong.

I agree. If Calzaghe were to beat the winner of the Tarver / Hopkins in simular fashion later in the year then Calzaghe should be considered for fighter of the year. ( its too early maybe but its a possibility ).
